Deserved to be dropped though I would've dropped Castagna first... :shh

Having said that ...at least make him earn his place back this time by playing a minimum of a month of good footy in the VFL.... :shh :shh

Yep, he'll play 1 game in the Magoo's and grab about 12 touches, 2 goals and 4 tackles and will be straight back in. Shame.

Wouldn't it be nice if there was another Rioli named. Dan could donate his guernsey number to him as well.

“HE GETS DROPPED A LOT”: PREMIERSHIP TIGER ON THE FRINGES

By Alex Zaia
SEN
4 June 2021

Richmond has left out forward Daniel Rioli for Saturday night's Dreamtime clash against Essendon in Perth.

The triple premiership Tiger was an unused medical sub in last week’s win over Adelaide after being omitted following the Round 10 loss to Brisbane.

Rioli was also the medical sub against Sydney in Round 3 before he was dropped for Richmond’s Round 4 match against Port Adelaide.

He was also out of the side a couple of times in 2020 before rallying to play a key role in the club’s third flag in four years.

Tim Watson is curious as to why the 24-year-old is on the fringes in 2021.

“I see Daniel Rioli has been dropped again. He gets dropped a lot,” Watson told SEN Breakfast.

“Obviously he doesn’t do all the things that the little forwards are required to do there at Richmond.

“You think about (Jason) Castagna, when was the last time Castagna got dropped?”

Garry Lyon added: “He (Castagna) has had a bit of a lean trot. He scores his one or two (goals) along the way.

“There must be areas of his (Rioli's) game that they need to see him improve him.”

Rioli, who comes out of contract at the end of the year, has kicked eight goals in nine games and averages 3.2 tackles per match this season.

He’s booted 88 goals in 104 career games for the Tigers.

Poor Daniel had minus 10 metres "gained"  :P.

14 disposals (4k, 10h, 7c, 7u, 92.9% eff.)
3 marks
1 tackle
1 inside 50
-10 metres gained
3 intercepts
5 score involvements
1 goal assist
65% time on ground

Really no point in saying anything as it is the same week after week

Another underwhelming performance which has become the norm

But he keeps getting games

Mr invisible he really is taking games away from our kids. Why not RCD or Dow instead of him. And if people are so fixated on his replacement having to be a fwd why not the ex saint. No one can possibly offer up less than this bloke atm.

We really need to put a serious rocket up the small forwards arses.

Rioli and Castagna have to go
We could use players that are willing to chase and tackle applying pressure inside f50 id definitely run Baker through there or maybe stack if he’s ready.

I’d replace Rioli with Parker and see how he goes against his former club.

Another example of Daniel's poor season. He has been the 4th worst one-on-one target in the AFL this year.

Daniel Rioli (Richmond): 24 contests, 4 wins, 12 losses (-8 differential)

I think we need to reinvent him in another position as this is not working at all.

The lack of contested marking contest wins have been a massive problem for us this year. In particular  across half forward. Rioli, Aarts and Castagna have struggled with this. Umpiring has played a small part in my opinion but so has skill. To me Daniel should be a front a square player but he doesn't play that role. It's been confusing this year to be honest. I think this is definitely why we recruited Parker. What I don't understand is at times Aarts and Castagna have had terrible form slumps but have been spared from being dropped. It will be interesting to see the mix going forward.

It’s a tough position to play small forward when out of form
A run on the ball in the twos or even in the seniors can build confidence
