« on: October 19, 2005, 05:15:47 AM »
Our 3 picks aren't the worst set of picks in history going by the last 10 years or so. Could easily live with us picking up kids of similar ilk to a few of the names below. I might skip all but Hyde of the RFC ones though :help.

1998: Jude Bolton (Sydney)
1997: Chris Tarrant (Collingwood)
1996: Leigh Brockman (Geelong)

Pick 24:

1994: Matthew Manfield (Fitzroy then to Richmond :P)

Pick 40:

2004: Ivan Maric (Adelaide)
2003: Eddie Sansbury (Kangaroos)
2002: Father/Son - Jobe Watson (Essendon). Tim Fleming (Richmond) was the next pick.
2001: Father/Son - Gary Ablett Jnr (Geelong). Henry Playfair (Geelong) was the next pick.
2000: Chris Hyde (Richmond)
1999: David Hille (Essendon)
1998: James White (Richmond)

Well put together MT! :thumbsup
You certainly can see a trend. Pick 8 has a host of talented players, pick 24 also has a good selection of quality players but pick 40 only has Michael o'Loughlin & Abs Jr. No disrespect to Hyde but he hasn't really proven himself yet. Hille has shown promise but went AWOL last season.
If this draft is as thin as people are suggesting, I wouldn't hold much hope for our pick 40.

Krakouer was also taken around the 40 mark. In fact picked up straight after Hyde. He also fits into that "yet to prove himself" category.

Still if you can score a 3rd rounder like a Krakouer and Hyde are put them in the bottom 6 of your 22 then you ain't doing too badly. They're at least useful and add depth. What we need most from them is consistency each and every week to take the workload off our top guys especially in the midfield where we lack depth.
