i think the odd appearance as a tagger is not that bad of an idea. I recall Deledio was used as a tagger for Mundy a couple of years back when we lost to Freo by 1 point?

Also Bartel was used as a tagger on Lenny Hayes in the 09 GF and that worked beautifully.

Am i advocating Cotch to be a permanent tagger? Of course not, but now and again to mix it up and throw off opposition coaches (this plan B we all pray for) I think is not that horrible of an idea

If Cotchin becomes a tagger does that mean he won't do those bloody infuriating dinky 20 metre kicks anymore? Will he able to embarrass the best midfielders in the league by reducing their total possessions to only 9 especially if we are playing a final against them?

Perhaps. Think it will take 9 losses before we win one

6 to go

Six years of coaching and dimmer still doesn't know how to play his lads.

Seriously worst coach going around.

I see this as a thinly disguised way of taking Cotch out of the centre square at times.  The current trend of using 195cm+ midfielders is something we struggle to handle when we line up with smaller players like Dusty, Miles, Cotch or Titch in the square.  Norf got to us by putting as many big bodied players in the square as possible for the bounce (Zeibel & Cunnington types), then a designated hard tag on Cotch finished the job.  Meanwhile, their smaller players like Harvey & Nahas never got anywhere near the square!  WC & Whoreforn were even using their resting ruck as a midfielder before they rotated them off - Roughead & NicNat proved to be pretty handy midfielders in the square for a few bounces before they go off.  Size is hard to combat at a bounce, all you can do is to put your big guys in there too.  We need to experiment with some larger guys going into the square for a few bounces.  Rance?  Batchelor?  Townsend?  Moore?  Vickery?  I dunno, but we need a plan B that involves some big bodies at the bounce.

Cotch can tag his tagger.

Brilliant.

But if Rance helps us to win the clearance he isn't needed in defence immediately.  He can always go into the middle for the bounce & then slide back afterwards.  I didn't say this was a permanent set up, just a plan B, a roll of the dice option used at key moments.  It might open a door for Elton too.  Sydney are looking at using Franklin as a midfielder & Adelaide are thinking about Tex going in there too - when they do Rance can just go with them!  Its adapt or die, so what are your plans then?
Batchelor - why not?  You don't need to be a Brownlow Medalist to smash into one!
Or just sit back & watch the likes of Fyfe, Kennedy (Syd), Ziebel, Cunnington, Pavlich, Franklin, NicNat & Roughead continue to monster our smaller midfielders at bounces.  Your choice ... Oh & don't forget to include your plan ... ok?

martin 88kg
deledio 89kg
vlastuin is a solid kid

Mcintosh, Kamdyn
192cm   91kg

townsend 89kg

you'd have more chance beating fyfe with cotchin on him than grigg, imho

id like to see vickery in the ruck more. 100kg

he has the agility to impact more contests than the slowing maric

Right, good to see a plan!  McIntosh, Townsend & Vlaus have more chance against the monsters than Miles, Dusty, Cotch, Lids & Titch do.  Yes to Vickery rucking.  Now that Norf did it so successfully against us expect other sides to try it too.  Every side was trying to find their version of that formula last year, its a tactic with merit, especially against smaller midfielders like ours!  Some mids might need to find new roles, we might even find ways to hurt the opposition even more while their big monster forward is in the middle.  The monster forward turned midfielder can't be in two places at once, lets look to exploit them when they sacrifice their forward structure!  Cotch just might end up tagging ...  & carving them up on the rebound!

smaller players like Dusty, Miles, Cotch or Titch in the square.  Norf got to us by putting as many big bodied players in the square as possible for the bounce (Zeibel & Cunnington types),

Ben Cunnington = 185cm 86kg
Dusty = 187cm 86kg
Cotchin = 185cm 84kg
Admittedly Miles and Titch are a bit smaller but I don't think Cunnington is as big as you think. Ziebell isn't even that much bigger than Dusty at 188cm and 86kg. Deledio (who spends less and less time there) is 188cm and 88kgs

Surely Cunnington is taller than Cotch?
