Mark Chaffey
« on: November 13, 2005, 11:23:23 AM »
Terry Wallace was on 3AW yesterday (Sat 12/11/05). He was asked about Mark Chaffey because Dwayne Russell had heard a rumour that Chaff had played his last game for the tigers  :o

Tezza said that this was NOT TRUE He explained that Chaffey's groin problems from the end of the 2005 season had not healed and that Chaffey had gone in to hospital on Friday for surgery ( to release pressure on the abductor muscle :help) and that he should back to full training in 3 weeks and that this surgery would hamper Chaff's preparation for 2006.

Chaffs turns 29 in May so 2006 will probably his last year in any case given the young guys coming through. If his pre-season is hampered by the surgery then you'd presume he'll be underdone by the start of next season ???.

Tezza was adamant that this surgery wouldn't hamper his preparation MT - I think this is because he (Chaffey) hasn't been able to do very much on the track anyway.

chaffey is just another thorn in our team, guys like him and tivendale are slowing the development and progression of our team, we dont need these players, if we never see chaff in our jumper again, we wont miss him

You'd expect our young guys like Tambling, Meyer, Polo, Raines, ... to start getting games ahead of Chaffs and Tivs next year. Tambo (bar injury) should get close to playing every game while Meyer with more bulk on him should play more than half.

Unlike some I am a Chaffey fan. He does plenty of good things and responded well to the tagger role set for him by Wallace. His experience is something we really need regardless of how well the youngsters improve next season. I hope he gets over this injury quickly and remains sound.

Tivendale is another story. Has no trouble finding the ball but his disposal radar is all over the place like a mad womans breakfast. Whereas Richo can be frustrating at times and a hero five minutes later Tivva just makes you continually want to tear your hair out. >:(

Like the Deadman(Wrestlemania 13-0) the Richmond Tiger will again rise to the top of the jungle where he so rightfully belongs.

In fairness to Chaffey yeah he was much better this year TU. I even started to forget how shocking he was the year before when he couldn't hit a target to save himself rebounding out of our backline.

Problem is at 28 y.o. going on 29 as a tagger with just average ability and pace, Chaff's going to be bypassed by our younger guys fairly quickly.

Don't know. Our list had him out of contract at the end of this season so either that was wrong and it's actually the end of 2006 or he's signed a new deal. Anything to do with player contracts is classed as confidental information so unless it's published in the media it's hard to find out.

Cheers X. I'll change it to that in the contracts thread.
