Rumour also has it that they will be changing their nickname to the 'Suicide Bombers' after appointing Spud.

Spud going to the bombers has been reported in the Pulse today in the Herald Sun.

MT, I am sure that if he was offered an assistants job at the bombers and he was keen then the mentor job would get the flick straight away.

Spud neither quit nor was sacked. His contract just wasn't renewed  :thumbsup.

He's unique. 3 wooden spoons at 3 different clubs and going for a fourth lol.

Spud rejected the Bombers coaching role lol

Jack was close to the mark. According to 3AW yesterday, Essendon offered Spud a full-time assistant role as Harvey's replacement but he was happy enough with the part-time role at Melbourne and working on Triple M.

How embarrassing lol.

Well it looks like Spud is actually off to the Demons as an assistant to their Backline Coach. Well that will be interesting I must say.
Frawley's first quote for next season may involve phrases such as "you've gotta have the cattle" & "had a dip but today was not our day"

This might not be THAT bad of a pick up, i mean, his only a specialist coach, and the guy WAS a pretty decent defender i hear!

Atleast its a better idea then having Stewart Loewe as a specialist ruck coach!  ::)

I thought that for a second Razor, but then the backline these days has a very attacking role and we really struggled to keep up with the football world with Frawley in charge. If they want him to teach defenders one-on-one bodywork, spoiling and contested marking then perhaps he might have something to offer, but in terms of him helping to build a cohesive, balanced, rebounding backline, I'm sceptical.....

Demons already kick ass at defensive rebounding, so yeah he'll probably be working with defenders on their 1v1 skills.

Dees need to find a full-back to replace Nicholson who gets found out for pace far too often. They also need midfielders who can win the contested ball. They have heaps of quick receivers which is suited to the more open H/A games but once the finals come along they keel over as there's fewer loose possessions.

As Jake said I don't know why they would want Spud when backlines nowdays set up attacks; not just purely defend. If we see the Dees put 18 guys behind the ball when 6 goals down at half-time then we'll know who came up with that idea lol.

Good luck to Brodders btw. He always showed his footy smarts.

Frawley now giving advice on recruiting

There is a school of thought that, in the modern game at least, the recruiting manager is as important as a coach.

But what about taking it a step further and saying the recruiting boss and his team are now THE most important group at any AFL club?

You could argue they always were, back when Graeme Richmond was luring Royce Hart from Tasmania to Punt Rd with a cheap suit and complimenting Dick Clay's mother in Kyabram on the bloom of her roses and quality of her scones.

As good as he was, would Tom Hafey have coached Richmond to four premierships without Hart and Clay? Probably not. As they say in football, you have to have the cattle.

Former Tigers coach Danny Frawley yesterday said Hafey had told him: "The winnings are in the pickings, son, because you can polish a diamond but you can't polish a piece of cement."

"Coaches can improve players but, in reality, players make coaches and that's why I agree the recruiting department is the most important in a football club," Frawley said.
