Dimma just gave his post-match presser:

* Tough result. It's the brutal nature of footy. You can be in front but when you beat yourself with lack of smarts it's disappointing. Some unintelligent footy tonight - Eg: Grigg playing on from 50 when we never do that.

* We've won a lot of close games over the past 2-3 years. When you play a lot of close games I guess you eventually lose one. We didn't use the ball well in the last 5 minutes. Just kept kicking it down the line to them (Collingwood). That means we had spare players behind the ball and didn't use them. Learning points but I'd rather learn gaining the 4 points.

* Deliberate out of bounds - no problem with that as long as they are consistent. Expected us to punch the kick to the top of the goalsquare through for a behind.

* Scratchy game early but both sides had a crack.

* Grimes - tendon behind the knee. Had a similar thing last year in the Adelaide game. Maybe 1-2 weeks. Wait for scan but it's not a significant injury.

* Edwards is most probably to return next week. Others are doubtful.

* Both sides had players out. Expected us to still to have the players to win it. Need to get back on track next week against an Adelaide side that played fairely well last week.

* Deledio - kicking is the issue; not running.

* Hampson - he's fine. Just rucked a lot of minutes.

Wont beat the Crows so expect some more spin at Hardwicks next presser. Geez Hardwicks contract extension is going to get some fierce discussion in the coming weeks.

We have not learnt a thing since the EF in 2013.
Tonight proves this.

Should've culled post 2014 after horror first half of year.

Adelaide, West Coast, Melbourne, Port Adelaide, Hawthorn, Sydney and Fremantle up next.

Let's talk about that premature two year extension shall we.

RFC Board should be ashamed. Extending his contract pre season was always a negligant and arrogant move that had 'bite in ass' written all over it.

This playing group is done. Anyone that thinks otherwise is on fairy dust. Vs a woeful line up that had players out and club in turmoil over drug issue. Pathetic is too soft of words.

Brisbane would be the only side that would be further from a premiership than we are. We are in Essendon and Carlton bracket now. Very sad.
Go Tigers!

Hardwick: We lost our heads

Herald-Sun
April 2, 2016

RICHMOND coach Damien Hardwick accused his side of losing its head after a litany of errors gifted Collingwood a dramatic last-gasp win.

The Tigers led by 17 points with 11 minutes to play, but a catalogue of mistakes opened the door for a late Pies rally that culminated in Brodie Grundy’s game-winning goal with four seconds left.

“I thought we played some really unintelligent footy towards the end,” Hardwick said.

“The players know better. We just didn’t make the right decisions at the right time. Shaun Grigg with a minute and a half to go has a long shot outside 50m and we play on ... we never do that.”

In a nightmare finish, Ty Vickery gave up a set shot to make a pass that was turned over, Nick Vlastuin was penalised for deliberate out of bounds when he could have kicked clear and Jack Riewoldt missed a spoil that Grundy crumbed for the winner.

“I’m happy with that rule (deliberate) as long as they’re consistent,” Hardwick said.

“I would have thought we would have spoiled the ball through but credit where it’s due, it was a smart kick from (Darcy) Moore, we probably thought it was going to be that type of kick, they just got the better of the contest.

“We wanted to either get that ball either through for a point or a long spoil, but we got neither.”

It came after the Tigers had wasted countless opportunities in front of goal, going in at half time 3.8 and three-quarter time 7.12 before finishing with 12.14.

“It’s easy to individualise, but we shouldn’t have been in that situation. We missed gettable shots at goal and you leave the door open and good sides bounce back and take the four points from you,” Hardwick said.

“It’s a tough game, but Collingwood had some blokes out, we had some blokes out. I still thought we had enough players to win the game, but that’s the nature of the game. At some stage a majority of sides will go through it. Ours is now so we’ve got to battle and hang tough and get four points back on.”

Richmond’s injury list has been extended too, with versatile defender Dylan Grimes set for a stint on the sidelines with what appears to be a hamstring tendon injury.

“We’re not sure of the severity of it at this stage. He had something similar last year ... it might be one or two weeks, but we’ll get scans to verify that,” Hardwick said.

Shane Edwards is likely to return next week, but Brett Deledio is still “unlikely” as he battles to shake off a quad injury sustained at training before Round 1.

“He’s running flat out, but it’s kicking that’s the issue,” he said.

Hardwick laments price Tigers paid for playing 'unintelligent footy'

AFL.com.au
April 2, 2016

RICHMOND coach Damien Hardwick has savaged his team for playing "unintelligent" football in the dying minutes of Friday night's one-point loss to Collingwood.

The Tigers let an 11-point lead slip in the last two minutes at the MCG, with the Magpies pouncing on skill errors and poor decisions to steal the win with just four seconds remaining.

Among the decisions criticised on Friday night was Ty Vickery's choice to centre the ball, rather than take a shot and soak up time with three minutes to play.

Hardwick said his players knew better and simply didn't make the right calls at the right times to seal the result.

"Stuff like that, which is situational and the players know better," the coach said of Vickery's decision to play on.

"Shaun Grigg, with a minute and a half to go, has a long shot from outside 50 and we play on from a situation like that … we never do that.

"You can be in front for a period of time, but when you beat yourself with smarts it's probably really disappointing.

"I thought we played some really unintelligent footy towards the end … it's easy to individualise but we should never have been in that situation."

Hardwick said he had put a spare man behind the ball in the final two minutes, but his players hadn't utilised it, instead kicking long down the line.

He conceded his team had left itself open by failing to put the Magpies away during the second quarter when they dominated possession but kicked just 1.6.

"There are some learning points from it, and unfortunately you'd rather do the learning points from it with the four points," he said.

"It's a tough game … but we've got to battle and hang tough and get four points back. We've got to get back on track."

The Tigers face Adelaide at the MCG next Saturday and appear no closer to regaining vice-captain Brett Deledio, who remains "unlikely" with a groin injury.

Defender Dylan Grimes also appears set to miss with a "tendon issue behind the knee" that will require scans over the weekend.

Grimes, who has a long history of hamstring troubles, suffered the injury just before half time and took no further part in the match.

"It's not anything significant like that, touch wood," Hardwick said.

"He'll get scans to verify that."

Welp... didn't think it was possible...but here we are 4 seasons on from the infamous Cairns encounter and not only have we topped our "worst 37 seconds of football in the history of the game"...we've also managed to stretch it right out to 5 minutes...and we even did it with a worse ruckman than Tom Derrickx making just as bad a fundamental error that contributed to the concession of the losing goal...

Now that's progress....no wonder Supercoach 7 of 9 was given another two years...... :gotigers

EDIT: A poster on BF on summed it up far better and more succinctly:

Doc give me the a few lines to describe what happened to give Grundy that goal

I turned off at three quarter time after another of that idiots insipid efforts.

I presume Hampson was involved and I'm curious where was griffiths in the final seconds when Grundy kicked that goal

We are a pathetic football club led by an even bigger idiot in the man who can't even screw his Mrs properly

Hamspud  ran under the ball , completely missing it with a half-hearted, limpwristed slap that would've elicited a contemptuous laugh from Richard Simmons, as it fell into the waiting arms of Grundy.......it was quite extraordinary....

Can't really remember what Big Bad Benny was doing at the time or if he was even on the field or the bench....but it was probably the same level of contribution either way...

well there you go. No real suprise although i would have expected griffiths to go down with a paper cut in the dying seconds and captain courageous to kick it 15 metres also.

yet some still praise this clown of a coach we have.

incredible
