'We'll still make the eight,' says Richmond coach Damien Hardwick

3aw
April 10, 2016 - 1:03PM

A defiant Damien Hardwick has insisted Richmond will play finals in 2016.

The Tigers have started slowly, with disappointing losses to Collingwood and Adelaide after scraping past Carlton in the season opener.

But Hardwick said as far as he's concerned, the Tigers will still be finishing in the top eight.

"We have to make sure we just don't make up the numbers," he told 3AW Football.

"We want to be a legitimate contender, and to do that, we're going to make some hard calls."

So he reckons he will make the eight, eh?

That's the aim of a team that hasn't made finals for the last 3 years.

For a team that has made the 8 and failed for three consecutive years to make it past the elimination stage, it's more an admission of loss.

3 years of premature finals failure and he still is happy with MAKING the eight?

Seriously, stuff off.

Just so we can perpetuate the mediocrity?

We will finish 14th this year, my friend AND it's what we need to force those kangaroo idiots at the club into the position of making the calls they don't .

Stuff him, it was top 4 earlier and premiers and in 3 rounds we are only making the 8 now. Mid season i can hear it now..........yeah look, clearly we are not good enough to make the 8 at the moment... :banghead

I agree mostly with your post but I don't think he said anything about being happy to make the eight. (Even though secretly I think he would be right now)

4 points against the Eagles will do me.
“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.
