Tigers froze against Eagles, just poor: David King (SEN)

Tigers froze, just poor

Joshua Papanikolaou
SEN
16 Apr 2016, 12:21PM

In a game Richmond desperately needed to show improvement after a poor start to the season they froze and were overall very poor in their 68-point defeat to West Coast at Domain Stadium, says David King.

The Tigers now have only one win from their first four games and that is not even close to the most concerning statistic when analysing their first month of football.

"It was just poor, all around it was poor," said King on SEN's Crunch Time.

"They had no answers down back, I don't think I've seen a more dysfunctional defensive game - they didn't put any pressure on the Eagles.

"Well they froze down back, they couldn't execute out of the backline.

"I keep going back to what you can guarantee when you walk in the door, I can guarantee that I'll put pressure on and do my best to force the opposition into turnovers - they didn't bring any of that."

The first half in particular was largely one-sided as the Eagles simply refused the visitors any easy access into their own forward line, the inside 50 count finished 60 to 27.

Amazingly the Tigers only had two fewer possessions for the entire match but had just four scoring shots at half time.

"They kicked 15 points from turnovers, the average is almost ten goals across the competition, 56 points, they kicked 15 and they were laughable errors late," added King.

"It was so bad (the numbers), no you can't throw this one away (as the coach).

"The same thing happened last year."

Mark Robinson was stunned with how easily the Eagles dominated territory and suggested that coach Damien Hardwick may even consider forgetting the game altogether in terms of a review.

"It was unbelievable the stark difference in the numbers," he said.

"They went with the plan to handball out of the backline, that was going really well until they started missing targets.

"Then in the second quarter they couldn't even get it out of the backline.

"I mean the word froze, it just collapsed, everything collapsed... the only thing that can be done on this is work, head down and work their way through it."

Andrew Moore's defensive efforts read refusing to do any chasing is embarrassing not to mention pathetic
How did he get selected seeing as we are in the defensive efforts paradigm?

He some how fell over enough times that he landed on players and managed 15 tackles or something

Get out the tape and watch the third when he is less than 2 metres from his opponent he flaps his arms and tells Houli to chase who's 10 metres away. Poor, non existent 2nd effort. Then fast forward about 8 minutes later he just doesn't chase, takes 2 steps and stops, great effort right there.

At stoppages he tackled, in one on ones when he needed to chase he didn't

If what he dished up last night is what we've got to look forward to then we've wasted a spot on our list. Jed Adcock would give more than this bloke

I was referring to his VFL game last week. Which sort of proves your point. VFL level player

West Coast assistant Justin Longmuir has accused Tyrone Vickery of staging as the Eagles sweat on Scott Lycett’s availability for Saturday’s blockbuster clash with Sydney.

West Coast ruckman Scott Lycett has accepted a one-match ban for striking Richmond forward Ty Vickery.

Lycett's blatant punch to Vickery's face was graded intentional with low impact to the head, meaning he could accept a one-match ban with an early guilty plea. He wasted no time in taking the suspension, confirming it on Monday night.

Quirky Round 4 stats: Richmond’s terrible forward half differential

Herald Sun
20 April 2016

IMAGINE playing a whole quarter of football exclusively in your opposition forward half.

Well, that’s exactly what Richmond did in Friday night’s loss to West Coast.

Champion Data stats reveal the ball spent 34.52 minutes more in the Eagles’ forward half compared to the Tigers’ — effectively one whole quarter of footy — the club’s worst ever differential.

No wonder the Tigers struggled, particularly in the first half when they managed only four scoring shots to West Coast’s 23. What a smacking. It’s fair to say Damien Hardwick would have honed in on that point in his Monday review meeting with the players, that’s if he could hold off mentioning it for that long.

“It all came down to contested ball, we were well beaten around the contest,” Hardwick said post-match. “We know how important clearance is against West Coast Eagles, especially early doors.

“We just battled in that area, then just couldn’t get the ball our of defensive 50. We knew it was going to bne a tight tussle, and it is pretty tough to get it out (of defence) on a smaller ground.

“Defensively they set up very well.

“We just couldn’t break through their first line (of defence).”

That's because we move the ball so slowly that teams can zone us out of the game....... :whistle

He always says this-
all came down to contested ball, we were well beaten around the contest,We know how important clearance is against West Coast Eagles, especially early doors."

“We just battled in that area, then just couldn’t get the ball our of defensive 50. We knew it was going to bne a tight tussle, and it is pretty tough to get it out (of defence) on a smaller ground.

but he never stuffn does anything about it during the match.
His pressers are nothing but stating the obvious and......he gets away with it.

FHO.

So what does he do when in the pre planning stage for this game? He drops our best in and under midfielder  :clapping

Some poster keeps saying it and they're spot on, we're losing games before a ball is even bounced.
