12 April 2016Richmond's players have demanded their senior figures "stand up" as they attempt to steady a season suddenly under pressure.
Vice-captain Brett Deledio has revealed there have been forthright words between the players, with senior players outside of the leadership group of Trent Cotchin, Shane Edwards, Ivan Maric, Alex Rance and Deledio also expected to show maturity and enforce on-field rules.
A lack of leadership has been blamed for a scratchy start to the campaign, heading into Friday night's clash against West Coast at Domain Stadium.
Cotchin had his role questioned publicly after the loss to Collingwood, but he responded with 32 disposals and a goal against the Crows, also a loss, on Saturday.
"How can Trent be solely responsible for every single play? I know he is the captain. He sets up his midfield but we have other leaders, senior players, in other positions on the field that need to take some responsibility," Deledio said on Tuesday.
"That basically has been the discussion around the club that, yes, Trent is our captain and we have got our leadership group, albeit myself, Shane and Ivan weren't playing that game [against the Pies], but we have some senior players out there [and] we see you guys as leaders anyway, start to stand up and take some responsibility and get our set-ups right and we don't lose these games."
