Pick 8: Jarrad Oakley-Nicholls
« on: November 26, 2005, 10:35:17 AM »
Pick 8: Jarrad Oakley-Nicholls

Details:
Club: East Perth
DOB: 9 Feb 88 Hgt: 186cm Wgt: 74kg
Position: Midfielder
Natural Foot: Right

Honours:
Under 16 WA 2004
Under 18’s WA 2005
WAFL Colts Team of Year 2005
2005 AFL Draft Camp Invitee

Statistics:
U18 Championships 2005: 3 games, 1 goal, average 7.3 PPG

Draft Camp Results:
Agility 7.97 sec (1st)
20m sprint 2.85 sec (2nd)

Background:
Oakley Nichols has got all the attributes that a recruiting officer would look for - pace, skill, agility, height, athleticism and dedication. After the WAFL 16s carnival he would have been one of the first picked for the 16s team as he dominated some games playing ruck, full forward, wing, rover and centre half forward. He looked a class above and proved to be one of the hardest players to match up on. In the National 16s carnival he had a good but not awesome carnival as he did in the 18s this year. He played very well in colts level footy and held his own in senior football. His stakes have risen through out the year as more people have seen him, he could develop into a player that people pay money to watch, he plays an exciting brand of football and could be compared to a Robert Murphy type player. Impressed in the agility and 20m sprint tests at draft camp.

Strengths:
- Versatile
- Plays tall and small
- Good Leadership skills and commitment
- Played Senior football which is good considering his light frame

Weaknesses:
- Still pretty skinny may need a year or two in the weights room
- Has not shown full potential in national carnivals
- Has had shoulder and collarbone injuries in past

Footydraft.com comment:
Oozes potential and obviously recruiters have seen it too judging on his growing popularity and draft camp invitation. Is a strong chance to go top 20.

Oakley-Nicholls+Deledio+Tambling = "You can't touch us" midfield!

We'd have to be pushing for the most athletic midfield in a couple of years time!

A team of 6ft 2"ers. Wallace will be in cloud nine.

We obviously didn't rate Clark.

Don't forget Meyer. If two of Meyer, Tambling and Oakley-Nicholls come off then we are looking good with Tuck, Cogs and Deledio there too.

Get set for the KPP players to be chosen next year. This was a good effort ... getting Hughes at 24 was terrific. In about 95% of all phantom drafts he was rated a top 10.

In the AFL draft comp ...I had  us getting Hughes at 8. Spewing though I missed out on 10,000

Poor Oakley-Nicholls, already being crucified on PRE!

Why don't those stuffing idiots stop bagging our draft picks and support them?  :banghead

You know...if Hughes had been selected at 8 and Oakley Nicholls at 24....theyd probably be saying that getting Oakley Nicholls was terrific lol...My only concern at 8...was Clark...I was hoping Dowler but when he went...it was between Clark and a midfielder...and obviously they rated Jarryd

Miller just said he only rated 2 talls, including Dowler for the 8th pick but when he went they decided to pick a midfielder, they rated Oakley-Nicholls, Dempsey and Varcoe and took Oakley-Nicholls.

His plans got thrown out of whack when Hughes was available at 24, thought he'd be gone in 1st round.

Who cares what other sites think  ::).

I'll start judging him from the trial game in Feb onwards.

Miller was totally rapted about getting Oakley-Nicholls. Called him a "speed-machine" - 188cm, great speed and agility.

Deledio, Meyer, Oakley-Nicholls, Rodan, Tambling = Wallace's wet dream!  :rollin

I am SOOOOO hyped about how quick our mudfield is going to be in a few years time!

So he only rated Dowler and Kennedy?

I wonder how far down Miller rated Hughes, other than thinking he would be gone first round.

Going by the article on the AFL website Miller also rated Ryder along with Dowler and Kennedy. Sounds like he had Hughes as a late first rounder.

They showed some highlights of him from the carnival on the ch10 draft show, all i'll say his Meyer arms have got nothing on Oakley-Nicholls arms, the guy needs some muslces, stat!
