Wallace: Tigers should talk to ClokeHerald-Sun
May 2, 2016FORMER Richmond coach Terry Wallace has panned the Tigers’ recruiting and says they should talk to Collingwood forward Travis Cloke about a potential trade.
The Tigers this morning rubbished rumours Cloke was interested in a move to Punt Rd.
Wallace, who coached the Tigers from 2005-09 before the arrival of Damien Hardwick, says the club “has to knock that (rumour) on the head” but should be putting out feelers behind the scenes.
“I would be surprised if they weren’t having conversation with him, to be honest,” he said on SEN.
“It doesn’t mean you’re locking into a person ... I think you go through those conversations before you decide you’re either locking into someone or you aren’t.”
Cloke, 29, has spent the past two weeks in the VFL as he looks to rediscover the form that saw him become one of the best key forwards in the game in recent years. He is contracted to the end of next season.
It was reported on SEN this morning that Cloke’s management has apparently been in discussions with the Tigers “for at least a month ... exploring possibilities about his future”.
But Richmond football manager Dan Richardson told the station: “I’m not aware of it. That’s not the case.
“I doubt it (would be happening without me knowing). I would think not.”
Richardson said the Tigers “will continue to look at our list”, but wouldn’t be drawn on whether Cloke would be a potential trade target.
“We’ll continue to look at our list, we’ll continue to search for ways to improve that list, whether it be through the draft, through trading or through free agency,” he said.
“I don’t think it’s appropriate to talk about players from other clubs in Round 6 of the season.”
