27 August 2016There’s no doubt 2017 has been an absolute crapier of a year for the Richmond Football Club, but some of the talk coming from ‘experts’ about what the Tigers need to do next is just airtime-filling nonsense.
The idea of trading any or all of Jack Riewoldt, Dustin Martin and Trent Cotchin is popular among commentators, but dumping their two best inside midfielders and only decent key forward when those are the exact areas the Tigers need to fix, would set the club back below the ‘rebuild’ mark.
With Sun Dion Prestia highly likely to land at Punt Road they are addressing the first deficiency perfectly, and now need to target a genuine big-bodied forward.
I said recently it wasn’t going to happen, but expect Richmond to pick up Travis Cloke in the trade period. They’ll get him virtually for free and he’ll be perfect playing from the goalsquare for the next two years.
Getting Cloke will make Richmond a laughing stock in the football world over summer, but the joke may be on everyone else come this time next year.
