Mixed messages.

The clarity and consistency of information coming from the club is a real worry. It's either panic stations or not on the same page

Didnt see all of it. Was out walking the dogs - much more pleasant   ;D

But from what did see the only thing that ifound remotely interesting was when asked by Watson what say does Hardwick have regarding the type of players recruited,  does he have the final say Gale's response after fluffing around for 30 seconds said no.

Have to say wasnt surprised by it but was surprised he admitted it  ;D

Having the final say on the day but not knowing why he wants them shows the flaw in the system.
He doesn't know who he really wants because he has nfi In general and can't be arsed researching the
up and coming kids for himself.
Too interested in trying to cover ehimself in glory with short term fixes in Grigg, Houli, Yarran, Hampson.....etc.

The negligence displayed toward the clubs number one ruck position is inexplicable .
Who does that??
Caracella and Balmey.

Well if its been publicly admitted that Hardwick isn't to blame for recruitment and we sit here and hear that we have a lack of talent.

Heads must roll on this.

Still doesn't take us away from the problem that regardless of player talent, Hardwick is a one trick pony. No plan B, no creativity or risk taking the likes of Adam Simpson, Don Pyke and Luke Beverage have done.

They don't have unbeatable lists. They have good coaches will great structures in place with a clear vision. Something Hardwick has not. Add the fact our list management strategy again is the joke of the AFL. Shows why we are playing the worst footy in comp
Go Tigers!

Tigers' list is capable, but needs more quality: Gale (3aw)

Tigers' list is capable, but needs more quality: Gale

AFL.com.au (from 3aw)
May 3, 2016

RICHMOND chief executive Brendon Gale says the Tigers' sole objective is on winning, but admits a lack of talent and player unavailability is hurting the team.

The Tigers have recorded their worst start to a season since 2010, and last Saturday night's 35-point loss to Port Adelaide was the club's fifth straight defeat for the first time since 2011.

Gale acknowledged the club's offensive structure was "breaking down" in the opening six rounds, but said the playing list as a whole had the potential to turn around its fortunes.

"I think our list has proven that we are more than capable and I still believe in the capability of our list," Gale told Melbourne radio station to 3AW on Monday night.

"For us to go to the next step, we need to continue to build … and bring in quality. Could we use better players? Of course we can, and our experience in the last couple of finals campaigns would highlight that.

"When we have our best team, or close to our best team available, we're more than a competitive footy team, but when we lose players who are unavailable, I think we lack depth."

The Tigers will take on Hawthorn at the MCG this Friday night without captain Trent Cotchin (cheekbone) and fellow onballer Kane Lambert (punctured lung, cracked rib) after the pair were injured against the Power.

All Australian defender Alex Rance will also miss the game after being handed a two-game suspension for his hit on Melbourne's Jack Watts in round five.

Gale said the club would continue to support senior coach Damien Hardwick, and the Tigers' chief would not be drawn into discussing whether drastic changes were needed if the losing trend continued.

"Damien is a good coach and he'll only get better," Gale said.

"The way they're playing isn't reflective on the way they're coached. There's something lost in translation there and so we're really keen to address that.

"Those bigger, broader issues around list, there'll be a time and a place for that, but right now the focus is on getting back and winning."

Despite having a membership base of over 70,000, a crowd of only 27,077 watched the Tigers take on the Power at the MCG.

Gale said he fully understood why supporters were "dispirited" by the Tigers' poor start to the season, but was remaining optimistic.

"We're disappointed but we're not dispirited … we're working very, very hard to find the answers and turn this team around," he said.

"I understand why people are disappointed and that's reflected in the crowd numbers."

Gale warns against writing Tigers off

Herald-Sun
May 3, 2016

RICHMOND has boldly declared it can still play finals after a disastrous 1-5 start to the season.

“There’s still a lot of life left in the season,” Tigers chief executive Brendon Gale told the Herald Sun Monday night.

“I haven’t given up on the year and I know the coach certainly hasn’t.

“I know a lot of people have, but we’ve been in this situation before. It’s very disappointing to be here again and we need to find out why we aren’t playing well and start addressing that.

“The way we are playing, people would be entitled to question that — but absolutely we can (play finals).

“But we’ve got a hell of a lot of work to do.”

Gale denied an internal review of the club’s list management, recruiting and player development programs had already begun.

He said: “Rebuilding is bulls---. There is no start or end, it’s a continuum.”

Asked whether it was the right decision to extend coach Damien Hardwick’s contract for two years on the eve of the season, Gale said: “Yes.

Absolutely, I believe it is. People would say ‘you would say that anyway’ ... but I believe the coach is a good coach and we believe he has all the attributes to become a better coach.

“The way the players are playing doesn’t reflect the way they are coached.

“This is a very, very testing set of circumstances and great opportunity to grow.”

The Tigers boss said talk of a total rebuild was premature.

“It’s a hypothetical proposition that you put forward, but if the time arrived ... everyone at this club is held to account and we expect to be held to account.

“I’m not going to speculate on where we finish ... but if we don’t continue to evolve and improve our team, we will want to understand why.

“When our list is available, and playing well, I think the list we have has proven and will continue to prove it is more than capable.

“Would we like to have more quality players? Of course we would ... but in terms of drafting and trade strategy, there will be a time and a place for that.”

Asked whether the club’s big five — Brett Deledio, Trent Cotchin, Jack Riewoldt, Alex Rance and Dustin Martin — were off limits at the trade table, Gale said: “They are wonderful servants of our footy club and all playing good footy.”

He said the club had faith in recruiting boss Francis Jackson and list manager Blair Hartley.

“A lot of people are keen to say you’ve done this wrong or you’ve done that wrong ... but our draft picks in recent years have made a contribution and there are some yet we don’t know,” he said.

“I understand why they come under scrutiny when we fall short of expectations and our fans have every right to be disappointed.

“Every one of us are held to account in some way, shape or form.”

The Tigers have signed a record 70,784 members this season and surged past Collingwood in the AFL membership race.

A paltry 27,077 turned out for Richmond’s 35-point loss to Port Adelaide at the MCG.

“I understand their frustration and their anger — I know where that frustration comes from ... but we are working very, very hard in trying to search for answers and holding people accountable.

“I didn’t expect it (the 1-5 season start). Given the profile of the list ... I thought there would be a lot of natural, organic improvement.

“And whilst our better players, when they are available are playing well, it’s that middle group that have stagnated a bit.

“We just need to get back to playing good footy and there will be a time and a place for all the other stuff.”

From Gale's interview on Talking Footy last night:

* Playing lists evolve. Expected more organic growth within our existing list.

* Complaining about GWS and Suns [regarding the compromised drafts] doesn't achieve anything.

* There was robust discussion at board level (re: Hardwick's contract). The board isn't just a group of sycophants. We constantly review all aspects of the Club. There's no sudden all encompassing review [i.e. no review with dramatic instant sackings at the end of it].

* Asked about missing out on recruiting a "big fish" such as Hannebery, Dangerfield and Treloar.
Benny replied that he felt uncomfortable talking about those players that are not on our list. Essentially, we'll continue to look out for top talent to bring to our footy club. We've invested in our resources to have the room to do so [ed. last bit didn't make sense as its room in the salary cap that will decide what can be offered to a big fish].

* We haven't given up on the season at 1-5. We were 3-10 and in a worse position in 2014. Carey replied that if you lose the next two (to Hawthorn and Sydney) then you'll need to focus not on this year but on next year. Gale answered back [paraphrasing] that what will be will be.

* Not contact between Cloke's management and the RFC, he's aware of.

* Asked why Jack isn't in the leadership group?
The players vote on the leadership group. Jack is a leader and is passionate. The leadership group could have been expanded to six but it was left at five. Prior to 18 months ago, Jack needed to work on his off-field leadership.

* Has Dusty's dad being deported affected Dusty's form?
Would it affect you if that happened to you? Of course, it would! Dusty has had a lot of issues to deal with over the past couple of years and his growth as a person as a result has been excellent. We understand the (media) industry and that Dustin attracts interest. Those in the media that attacked him and his character straight after the chopstick incident didn't have the facts. The Club really supported Dusty and did a good job finding out all the facts.
