2016 marks the 6th time Richmond will wear an Indigenous themed and developed Guernsey for the Dreamtime at the ‘G game.

The 2016 version of the Guernsey is unique in that it is based on our yellow clash Guernsey – the first time our Dreamtime Guernsey has been predominantly yellow in colour.

This will be a hard one to lose.

Look for a few soft injuries, a few of our better players to have a bad game, and a few new faces in the team.

However even with these subtle tactics Essendon will be hungry to lose this game as well.

Well it's "earliest we can upgrade another rookie round", so that's a good start....

...Gaspar your mate Chappy so we can upgrade Callum Moore as well.....

Soooo right. Start retiring blokes we know are duds and give Chol/Moore a taste...But wait, you do realise that we are diverging from the script.....you know ...the part where we couldn't take a re-build  ::)

Match preview: Essendon v Richmond

AFL.com.au
23 May, 2016

SUMMARY

Essendon will take on a Richmond side that has recaptured its confidence after critical back-to-back wins in the last two weeks. The Tigers followed their after-the-siren win over the Sydney Swans in round eight with a comprehensive victory over Fremantle in Perth last weekend. With skipper Trent Cotchin back at the helm and in good form, Damien Hardwick's side looks more settled than it did during its six-game losing streak from round two to seven. The Bombers continue to struggle to score and fell away after half-time last week against St Kilda to drop their seventh game in a row. John Worsfold's team is finding it hard to string together four competitive quarters with a makeshift line-up this year, which leaves it exposed against the opposition most weeks.

WHERE AND WHEN: MCG, Saturday, May 28, 7.25pm AEST

LAST FIVE TIMES
R22, 2015, Richmond 10.14 (74) d Essendon 7.5 (47) at the MCG
R9, 2015, Richmond 10.12 (72) d Essendon 8.11 (59) at the MCG
R20, 2014, Richmond 14.11 (95) d Essendon 11.11 (77) at the MCG
R11, 2014, Essendon 15.14 (104) d Richmond 7.12 (54) at the MCG
R23, 2013, Richmond 15.14 (104) d Essendon 9.11 (65) at the MCG

THE SIX POINTS

1. The Bombers will need to lift their scoring if they're to beat the Tigers this week. Essendon is ranked last for points scored this season, averaging only 60 points a game.

2. This week will be the 198th meeting between the two clubs. Essendon has won 104 games to Richmond's 89, with four draws. Since 2012 it's five wins to three to the Tigers' way.

3. The annual Dreamtime at the 'G was first played in 2006, with the 10 meetings split mostly in Essendon's favour. The Bombers have won six of the contests, and three of the last four.

4. The Bombers have proved to be a high handballing side this year, ranking second in the competition (averaging 191 a game). The Tigers play in a contrasting style, averaging 159 handballs a game (ranking 15th).

5. Richmond captain Trent Cotchin returned to the Tigers' line-up last week in brilliant touch, gathering a career-high 39 disposals (including 18 contested possessions). He had missed the previous two weeks with a fractured cheekbone.

6. Zach Merrett's ascent as a midfielder has been reflected in the Schick Official AFL Player Ratings. The Essendon youngster has jumped to No.122 on the overall list after starting the year ranked 151.

IT'S A BIG WEEK FOR … Michael Hartley. The Bombers defender has impressed in his first year at the club and will face another big challenge in the backline this year faced against Jack Riewoldt.

PREDICTION: Richmond by 36 points

Tiger Ellis wary of Essendon in Dreamtime clash

AFL.com.au
23 May 2016

BRANDON Ellis can't wait for Dreamtime at the 'G, but the Richmond midfielder/defender knows Essendon looms as a potential banana peel for his resurgent Tigers.

The annual blockbuster recognises the indigenous contribution to Australian football and always draws a massive crowd.

And Saturday night's clash against the struggling Bombers and their patched up team comes at a critical point in the Tigers' season.

At 1-6 after seven rounds, a fourth-straight finals appearance appeared a long way off at Punt Road, but back-to-back victories have breathed new life into Richmond's season.

Speaking after his side's 38-point win over Fremantle at Domain Stadium on Saturday night, Ellis said the Tigers would need to keep a lid on their form reversal.

"Essendon have played some pretty good footy this year, they took it up to North last week in the second half, so they're going pretty well and we can't take them lightly," he said.

"We'll have our best foot forward next week."

Ellis had 18 disposals in the victory over the Dockers as Richmond won the contested possessions (155-146) and clearances (42-36) on a stormy Perth night.

The on-baller was pleased with the way his side negotiated the awful conditions.

"It was a tough slog. It was that windy and that slippery, and it kept raining and then it would dry up and then it would rain again," Ellis said.

"We just had to play wet-weather footy, and credit to the boys they put in a pretty good four-quarter effort.

"I thought our mids stepped up and really dominated and I think we won the contested ball and the tackle (counts), which is what we needed to do to get over the line."
