Has to be the best time of week. Richmond selection day nothing comes close to it for hilarity.

That won't necessarily always tell you everything Chucky....

give you a pretty good idea though

Yes but sometimes you get an even better idea when blokes actually play at the next level.....not unusual for players to perform better the higher they go, just as it's it's not unusual for players who look a million dollars in the reserves to look like duds in the seniors....

I have watched some of the seconds games Chucky. Have you?
I look at traits that may translate to good AFL performances.
They are independent of effort as that may be affected by loss of motivation that may have arise from never getting picked. Some of our players display those traits while others don't.
As big tone has stated, some players just need better players around them to shine.
If you have lost 6 games in a row it would be prudent to shake up those not performing too. Even if a guy like Butler hasn't set the world on fire in the magoos, giving him a chance and telling a senior dude to pick up his game by dropping him, is not unreasonable when the team is travelling like it is.

Or do you think you do SFA and play the same duds every game?

What do you think since you obviously watch the seconds?

not unusual? maybe not as it does happen, but it would not be the more common occurrence. it's more likely that if someone is spudding it up at one level they will spud it up more at the higher level.

And the message that you'll likely get a go in the 1s regardless of your performances in the magoos isn't a great alternative ethos imo.

What about the message that no matter how lazy certain blokes are or how badly they play in the seniors or for how many matches they do so, they'll never get dropped?

Well you tell them they have a block of games to show their wares and if they don't show something after that block, they go back to the magoos. That would be a reasonable start.

or you tell them there is a senior spot waiting for them if they get it right at the lower level and see what they are made of.
