Rest him up or send him in for surgery if needed & get him fit & ready for the pre-season (or GWS medical) and play his natural successor Lennon for the rest of the year....

RICHMOND won't rush to put vice-captain Brett Deledio on ice for the rest of the season, with the star Tiger to have scans on his troublesome right calf after pulling up sore in Saturday's win over Essendon.

Deledio starred in the first half at the MCG with 19 possessions, but he didn't take any further part in the game after reporting tightness during the main break.     

The 29-year-old suffered a lingering calf injury during the pre-season and missed the first five matches because of a quad problem, kicking children's footballs for much of his recovery.

Given the valuable Tiger's recent injury history and his team's youth-first approach for the rest of the season, it is conceivable Richmond won't risk him at all in the final six rounds.

 "We'll see how he pulls up. We don't want to make that call now, we'll wait for Brett's assessment and the medical guys will talk through that," coach Damien Hardwick said on Saturday.

 "It was only tightness, there was no incident as such, so we hope it's OK. But we're not going to take any risks with Brett at this juncture.

 "He just pulled up tight at the half-time break … so we wrapped him up and we'll get some scans during the week."

RICHMOND prime mover Brett Deledio will have scans this week to determine whether his 2016 season remains alive after calf tightness brought a premature end to his game in Saturday’s 19-point win over Essendon.

Tigers coach Damien Hardwick said no decision would be made on Deledio’s short-term future until the medical advice was clear, but insisted the club wouldn’t take any risks on him, given his history of calf issues.

“(Deledio) pulled up tight at the halftime break ... we will get some scans during the week, but he is a valuable player, so we are not going to put him out there when there is a question mark over him,” he said.

Asked if Tiger fans might have seen the last of Deledio this year, Hardwick said: “We don’t want to make that call now, we will wait for Brett’s ­assessment and the medical guys will talk through that.

“It is only tightness, there was no incident as such, so we hope it is OK.”

Doesnt really matter, season dead long ago. Will be good to get games into someone else and he can get himself right for next year (If thats the case of course)

This is bad news on more than one front.

If we were planning to off load Lids, this will make other clubs think twice.

We may be stuck with an injury prone 30 year old flanker on $700k plus a year while we try and rebuild....

Is his contract just for one more year? I think it is and I'm not sure he's on that much money TBH.


Anyway it didn't look that bad he was running up and down the boundary so it's probably minor. Tigers didn't look like they wanted to win that much TBH. I reckon Jack was just out there going for a run really...

Yeah heard those and find them silly TBBH

Facts remain he os contracted and has to agree to a trade and cant see that heppening. Also cant see the club trading him
