Has any club stuffed things up so badly for sooo long?
« on: August 01, 2016, 05:55:17 PM »
In the modern age, I cannot recall one team.

It's absurd that after three consecutive finals losses, the coach was given a two year contract.

Who does business like that?

But whatever, the question is, which club of the modern era has been as unsuccessful as the RFC ?

St Kilda until Lyon went there. Then after Lyon with Watters but they have stabilised now and look like moving forward.

Saints werent afraid to make a hard call early on watters even though they were roundly criticised and thought to have made a big blunder. So too the doggies with the previous coach.

Melbourne have had a pretty ordinary decade.

Even with all their improvement this year they have still only won 1 more game than us. ( and we have been woeful )

The AFL has given the Gold Coast every opportunity to become successful . Rather than become the unstoppable force we all predicted they have become the reincarnation of the old Brisbane Bears.

Depends on your definition of modern era - if we are looking at era's based on current leadership then I would say the latest era with Buckley.
Collingwood got rid of a premiership coach and gradually eroded their best list since the late 70's because the new coach wanted robots - or him.
They have gone from 2nd to 4th in his first year before finishing 7th,11th, 12th and probably 11th this year.
While I absolutely understand people picking over our carcass this year - what Buckley, Eddie and Gary Pert have overseen is hilarious to say the least.
What is even funnier is the way the media and their die hard supporters have embraced this mediocrity.
“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.
