RFC Board election & candidate info
« on: August 29, 2016, 05:21:01 PM »
The first official board challenger has come forward:

Website: http://www.gotiges.com.au/

My name is Simon Wallace.

In 2016, I offer myself to Richmond Football Club members as a candidate for election to the Club's board of directors.

Every single supporter (that’s you), employee, director, sponsor, volunteer and partner who has played a part in restoring Richmond to its current off-field health is to be congratulated and respected.

The Club will be forever in your debt.

However,  our Board is no longer representative of the Members it serves.

Having plateaued in 2013-2015, the quality of our Club's core product and focus - football - this year disturbingly and undeniably regressed.

Even in our Club's commercial operations, there are emerging signs of malaise.

In these circumstances, it is reasonable to query the Board's performance, composition and vision.

I want to make this clear:  I seek to join Richmond's Board.  I do not seek to overthrow or destabilise it.

At this election, your vote will be your voice.

Let's hear it.

http://www.gotiges.com.au/

Similarities

On most matters likely to come before the Board, I consider myself on a unity ticket with the incumbents.

Fiscal discipline, further investment in facilities & our football department and a continued focus on bolstering revenue streams and services to Members.

Off-field achievements under the stewardship of our Board have been remarkable, and I thank the entire Board, Club management, Members and Club partners for their commitment and accomplishments.

Differences

There are, however, four main differences between my offering and the record, priorities and composition of the Board.

Your Voice

Too many of our directors have been on the Board for a long time (10+ years), are at or near the end of their professional careers and are of an age and at a stage of life that means they cannot truly relate to Richmond fans, or football consumers, under 50.

Unlike most of our Board members, I can’t recount stories of our glory days, because I wasn’t there.

I have loved this Club since my early youth and I have been excruciatingly starved of Richmond success.

If that sounds like you, or someone you know, then your experience as a Richmond supporter is not currently represented on the Board.  In short, we want it more than they do.

The Board should be reflective of its Membership.  It’s not.

Back in black (and yellow)

Our Jumper is who we are.

It should be Yellow and Black, not the charcoal and mustard that it has been allowed to become.

I will ensure the colours worn by our players return to what they should be.

If our current apparel partner is unable or unwilling to do this, then we will find another that can.

Commitment

If I’m elected, I’m all-in on Richmond, my role, our supporters and our community.

I’ll advocate for the introduction of “con-free” po-ker machines at any venue we operate or control, drastically reducing our Club’s association with the shameful effects of pokies losses.

In 2016, we played our first game with a red ball in Round 12.  I'll agitate for Richmond home games to be played, wherever possible, at the family-friendly time of 2.10pm Saturdays at the MCG.  That should be Tiger Time.

I’ll also never have a sip of alcohol at any Richmond function, while I’m a director.

Accountability

Richmond supporters have thick skin, and elastic hearts.

However, 2016 was not, as the Club has repeatedly said, “disappointing”.

It was totally unacceptable.

Judging by the Cub’s remarks, it was also quite unexpected, which is perhaps an even bigger concern.

Off-field, despite many wonderful achievements, there are emerging signs of malaise.

Richmond supporters expect better.  I do.  I will.

I also believe that directors should serve on the Board for a maximum of nine years, extendable for a further period of three years only in the event our Club plays in a Grand Final during a director’s last term.

A steaming pile of dog poo would be a better option than our current board

I've got a few questions myself for Mr Simon Wallace.

Do you think Dumma Hardwick is a good coach? And what about his assistant Lard?
What do you think of the current game plan? Are you convinced of the "Blueprint of Success"?
Do you think Betamax is a good recruiter?
Do you think BJ Hartley is a good list manager?
Do you think Hamspud is a good player? And what do you think of Grigg, Houli, B Ellis & Hunt?
Do you think Benny & Peggy have exceeded expectations getting us as high as the 16th best sponsorship in the league?
Do you think the "Development Guru" Chocco has improved our list?
Are you any relation to Terry?

.......will you answer yes to any of these questions?
The club that keeps giving.

"The money might have been better. But, at the end of the day, Richmond showed faith in me. It's only fair that now we're 18th on the ladder, I show the faith back in the club and do everything I can to put them in front. In the end, I'm stoked I made the decision to stay. I f***ing love this club”

I'm likely in on the fact that, even without knowing for sure who he is, on the balance of probability of people you meet on the street, he has to be an upgrade.

The only Saturday afternoon time slot we should be concentrating our efforts on getting is the last one......
