Said the same thing today with my boss and my old man tonight. All year we watch our teams saying we're not too bad and how we might snag a finals spot, then watching these finals and realising how far we've really got to go. The two QFs have been amazing games of footy.

Agree to all, how many of our players would get a gig in these teams, maybe Rance, Dusty, Cotch, Vlastuin, Rioli, Miles? After that there wouldn't be many takers.

Had they "made" finals this year, it would have probably been the smashing hardwick needed.
I agree.
So far off of being a serious club.
The constant rubbish from the admin and coach is no consolation.

Oh look, they're all bloody good sides....

For me it's pretty simple- we have far to many guys not up for the fight in big games.
Without even thinking, these guys just aren't up to finals intensity footy , regardless of their abilities.

Grigg, Houli, Ellis, Griff, Astbury,
Then throw in a couple of kids that are not quite up to the "fight" part yet in CEllis and Menadue.

That's is 7 players that lack the fight and intent you need to win finals. Or even big games during the home and away season. That is why we fail in those games continually.

IMO those first 5 guys mentioned are a cancer on this club and we will never be a good side untill they are all gone and replaced with kids that are competitive beasts.

We need to start drafting these sorts of kids. Forget the skinny, silky outside wingman and recruit smart, big bodied, hard kids that are willing to tackle and get their hands dirty.

its mostly in our head I think, we are mentally weak.

Change the whole bloody footy department.
We are currently the opposite of what a premiership team should be.
We have a soft, limp wristed, pansy culture that loves backslapping for just showing up.
I would've done it after the infamous EF debacle or atleast after the Tommy Hafey tribute game.
That one game rubber stamped the whole lot of them. Every player, every assistant, every volunteer, should be replaced.
The club is diseased. Start again and hopefully rid the disease.
Get some people that don't talk crap and are fairdinkum.
Get a list manager that knows how to build a team of hard arses that won't take a backward step.
Let's get a coach and assistants that aren't afraid to demand excellence and expect tough footy.

Finals just reminds us of how poo we really are.  :banghead
The club that keeps giving.

Whats the point comparing Richmond to the Frankensteins monster of the AFL . Seriously how are we supposed to compete with that ????

If were lucky we might be able to secure a few more of their cast offs to help make us mid table again.

What a fool Adam Trelor is leaving the Giants - he mustn't like the idea of multiple premierships.

The Giants are so impressive and obviously the next dynasty in waiting.

You dont need talent to consistently attack the contest hard.

I dont see the hawks and the cats whingeing about not being able to compete with "that"

They might do some complaining over the next decade Tony .

And GWS have a smorgasbord of top 20 draft picks to look forward to next year....as if they need it .

The competition is rigged . I just hope the 10 000 supporters who actually follow the club enjoy it .

Great thread TM  :cheers

It's all so true, the simple reality is that there are only 4 quality sides in the AFL.
Norf and WC looked similarly outclassed on the weekend and I could see them where we are this time next year.
They finished Top 4 last year.
I don't see us there next year but there's maybe 1 or 2 sides that could join this years Top 4, only the Hawks are in danger of dropping next year.

My main issue with Richmond is the inability of its leadership to envisage an elite standard of performance on and off field - let alone execute it
“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.
