Tigers, Kangas Keen On Hartlett

Port Adelaide star Hamish Hartlett is talking to as many as five Victorian clubs about a possible trade, according to Triple M Footy’s Jay-Z Clark.

Jay-Z told Triple M’s Rush Hour on Wednesday that Richmond and North Melbourne are “very interested parties” in the race for Hartlett.

Incredibly, Hartlett is up for trade a mere 12 months after signing a five-year deal with the Power.

Imagine finishing last next year. Port gets the number one pick........ :chuck :chuck :chuck

Imagine.

This potential move has consistency written all over it.

Fiora for pick 3. Tambling for pick 4. Conca and Ellis for pick 7 or thereabouts. Yarran for pick 19. Maric another year.

So much for Balme.

Ellis was pick 15 unless you are referring to Corey, which would be stiff to lump with them

An initial meeting between Hartlett and ESS did not go well. I'm told HH was "extremely" late to the meeting and seemed "bored".

Hartlett's manager was also said to be underwhelmed with the ESS financial offer. Looks like he won't be a bomber at this stage.

Based on what?

Looking purely at performance to date, not to mention longevity (both have injury concerns yet Prestia is much younger), Prestia is worlds ahead of Hartlett at this stage and will have a longer future ahead of him as well.

Worlds ahead?! Really?

Purely from my own subjective point of view HH is far more polished. His disposal is A grade. He can do things that few others can; bullock through packs find space and slam goals from 50.

He also spends a lot of time across the half forward line which may explain his disposal numbers. Make no mistake, he is a genuine A grader.

Did some analysis and they're likely too different to compare fairly.

In arguably his two best years HH played 44 games and kicked 37 goals between 2013-2014. Averaged 20.8 disposals. Hardly Brett Deledio's numbers but I suppose they're honest. Not what I would call A-grade though. Averaged 8.5 contested possessions and 3.8 tackles/game.

In the same years Prestia played 42 games and kicked 19 goals whilst averaging 26.3 disposals (remember he is also two years younger and GCS were smashed those years whereas Port played finals both times). Averaged 10.5 contested possessions and 4.5 tackles. Definitely better numbers I think.

As for disposal efficiency you are on the money - HH went at 73% in 2015 and 72% in 2016. Dion went 67% and 62%. However given the disposal, CP and tackle figures you could argue Prestia is a more inside-mid, which is what we need more IMO.

HAMISH Hartlett wants to stay at Port Adelaide.

The Power vice-captain has turned away from his Victorian AFL suitors — Richmond, Essendon and St Kilda — to declare he would prefer to stay at Alberton rather than be part of a forced trade.

Richmond has first-round pick No. 6 but has this in play for Gold Coast midfielder Dion Prestia. Reports that the Tigers are prepared to offer their 2017 first-round draft pick for Hartlett does not suit Port Adelaide’s immediate needs.
