We don’t have a high rating of rucks - our drafting reflects that.
We won a flag in 2017 without a second ruck and again in 2020.
It’s probably been found to have worked for us.

Having said that, I don’t even think the club would have anticipated what we’ve landed by getting Nank.
One of those magnificent masterstrokes that can only happen every once in a while and his remarkable run of form has continued again this year.
His last quarter against Port in the 2020 prelim was epic.

What an absolute steal of a trade get that was.

He was surpassed by others at Sydney and they got pick 45 for him. There have been other trades like this when it comes to ruckmen and pecking orders.

Its pretty damning our record of drafting ruckmen and then having them develop into good afl players  for us. You probably have to go all the way back to 1997 and the Ottens draft.

This is an area i would hope we can long overdue address.

Callum Coleman-Jones was probably a good get. He was drafted at 20 and has held his value. Other than that I can't remember the last time we used a high draft pick on a ruckman, which goes some way to explaining why our speculative picks spent on ruckmen have so often missed the mark historically.

Wouldn't be trading P20 for CCJ this year. He's been crap

Toby Nankervis was outstanding in this contest, attempting to drag his team across the finish line. He absolutely monstered Rhys Stanley in the middle and around the ground – winning the hitouts 25-18 but also added 22 disposals, four marks, five tackles and seven intercepts. In the last quarter, in particular, he held the backline together, taking four intercept marks inside the Geelong forward 50. As Nank lifted so did his troops at ground level, keeping them in the fight for the whole contest. The ruck position, as usual, seems to be a very suspect area for the Cats, as they simply cannot rely on consistent and sustained production, and it could ultimately be the reason they come up short challenging the other elite.

He certainly is getting a lot of taps but I'm getting a bit frustrated by the number that are going straight to the opposition, resulting in centre clearances to the opposition. Last week against the Cats in the last qtr is the perfect example

If it's a PCL then that's pretty much season over for Nank. At least 8-10 weeks recovery IIRC.

Since 2019 Nank hasn't played more than 16 matches in a season although he had played every game this year until now  .
