Community Camp locations announced

Richmond will continue to maintain a strong presence in the community next year, with the AFL announcing locations for the 2017 Australia Post AFL Community Camps.

The Tigers will travel to three regions - Mildura, Swan Hill and Kerang, and the Shire of Cardinia from February 13 to 14.

Players will visit schools, host AFL Auskick Superclinics and engage with the broader communities.

Richmond has a strong connection to each region – through its partnership with Cardinia Shire Council and its Next Generation Academy Program, the Richmond Academy.

Through the Richmond Academy, the Club has already engaged participants in Mildura and Swan Hill.

Richmond held a Come and Try Talent Day in September, which featured speed, agility and football skill activities.

Over 80 participants, aged 11 to 15 years of age, took part in the session at Swan Hill Football Netball Club.

The Club then hosted a group of 16 emerging footballers, including Mildura pair Kobe Brown and Peter Clarke, Robinvale’s Phillip Moimoi, Red Cliffs product Kailen Walker and Swan Hill’s Nathan Louw, at Punt Road Oval for a screening day in November.

The Tigers also have a strong connection to the Shire of Cardinia, which stems back to 2012.

The Club joined forces with the Cardinia Shire Council to bring the community together using football, through various programs, events and community engagement initiatives.

Earlier this year, Richmond played a pre-season match against Hawthorn, in front of a crowd of close to 7,000 at Beaconsfield’s Holm Park Recreation Reserve.

The Club has also nominated to play two VFL home games at Holm Park Recreation Reserve each year, for at least the next three seasons.

Richmond CEO Brendon Gale said the Club looked forward to further engaging with these communities.

“The Australia Post AFL Community Camps provide a fantastic opportunity for our football club to engage and connect with fans and supporters in regional communities,” Gale said.

“The Club has strong supporter bases in the Shire of Cardinia, Swan Hill, Mildura and Kerang, and we are looking forward to visiting these regions in February.”

RICHMOND senior coach Damien Hardwick and top midfielder Dustin Martin will return to Sunraysia on Monday and Tuesday for the Tigers’ community camp.

Hardwick was senior coach when Richmond brought their side up to Sunraysia in 2012, while Martin and fellow star Alex Rance visited the region late last year as guests of the Sunraysia Tigers Richmond Supporter Group.

Sixteen Richmond players and 12 staff will make the trip to Sunraysia for a variety of activities across the two days.
