Richmond's training session on Friday was more a formality. Players spent more time signing autographs and posing for selfies than working at full speed.

There was one five-minute period where the players hit their stride during a full-field piece of circle work, but mostly it was about getting the legs moving and keeping reflexes sharp.

Jack Riewoldt, who missed most of the season through injury but hasn't missed a beat since returning, was the loudest voice, lampooning players when they missed goals and pumping them up when they scored from impossible angles.

Martin was one of those slotting goals from the boundary. Having kicked six goals in the qualifying final and seemingly free of the injury troubles that blunted his game in the 2018 preliminary final, his relaxed manner at training was an ominous sign for the Cats.
