This time of year I miss the training reports that used to come out with blow by blow descriptions of match sims and drills.
Have we played an intra club yet?

Clean bill? Premiers to hit 2020 in fine fettle (Herald-Sun)

pmac, we played a 35 min match simulation today.

Clean bill? Premiers to hit 2020 in fine fettle

In a warning for the rest of the competition, the Tigers were missing only three senior players as they completed 35 minutes of match simulation in hot conditions at Punt Rd on Thursday.

Other than ruckman Toby Nankervis (groin), hard nut Jack Graham (shoulder) and rebounding defender Kamdyn McIntosh (ankle) all the big guns were out there with Dustin Martin playing about 70 per cent forward.

In the opening passage of play, skipper Trent Cotchin burst out of the centre square and hit the dual Norm Smith Medalist on the chest 30m out.

Even goal sneak Jack Higgins, who had a second bout of brain surgery last year, continued his remarkable recovery completing the whole session largely in the midfield.

Things are looking good for an early return for Higgins.

Grand Final hero Marlion Pickett showed he has more tricks than a brilliant blind turn, pulling out a wicked sidestep on another darting run down the middle early on in the piece.

Looking completely comfortable on the wing and in the centre square, the mature-age revelation looked like a man set to play 20 games in his second season of AFL in 2020.

What an incredible story he is, playing in a premiership in his only senior match.

But this year, Pickett seems almost certain to become a regular member of the senior team.

That’s despite the club’s ridiculous depth.

Sydney Stack and Shai Bolton both showed flare in the forward half yesterday, while livewire Liam Baker was another who was prominent off half back, seemingly taking up some of the slack from departed flanked Brandon Ellis.

Key defenders David Astbury, Nathan Broad and Dylan Grimes had things sorted down back as part of a defence which will be once again missing superstar Alex Rance.

Twin towers Jack Riewoldt and Tom Lynch led the forward set up alongside Martin, while Ivan Soldo took charge in the ruck as Nankervis completed run-throughs on the sidelines.

Nankervis and Graham are expected to be back in full training in coming weeks.

RICHMOND

The Tigers always tend to be in pretty good nick. Something in the water at Punt Rd.

In case you haven’t heard, Grand Final hero Marlion Pickett is absolutely flying on the track.

Kamdyn McIntosh did suffer an injury scare during the Tigers’ trip away, while Jack Higgins has taken a big step in his recovery from brain surgery.

pmac, I'm told they train Monday, Thursday & Saturday.

And the next open training session according to the RFC website isn't until March 18.

We had our Club XII preseason function today

Which was to watch training over breakfast

Will confess didn't watch much training  ;D

But the tiny bit I did, was ball movement drills. Younger players mainly. Gee Dow is good by foot

Pickett, Bolton shine as 21 flag Tigers go head-to-head

GOOD luck breaking into this Richmond outfit.

In a scary message to rival clubs, every remaining 2019 premiership Tiger was on show in a physical intraclub match at the Swinburne Centre on Thursday morning.

Ruckman Toby Nankervis was the only player from last year's flag to start in a weakened 'B' side against a stacked 'A' team that also featured Noah Balta and Jack Graham.

Speedster Shai Bolton (two goals) dazzled as a high half-forward, Dustin Martin was up to his usual tricks between midfield-forward and Grand Final debutant Marlion Pickett again impressed.

Daniel Rioli was also busy in attack and delivered the highlight of the morning with a high-flying mark over a pack of four players.

Nankervis played only the first term before he continued his rehabilitation following groin surgery, allowing Ivan Soldo to tackle a bulked-up Callum Coleman-Jones in the ruck.

Given Brandon Ellis' move to Gold Coast, the other 20 players from the triumphant line-up played for the 'A' team in the four-quarter hitout.

Graham also played limited minutes as he recovers from a shoulder injury sustained in last year's preliminary final.

Balta played in a key defensive post alongside David Astbury, Dylan Grimes, Nathan Broad and Nick Vlastuin as the Tigers search for greater depth following the shock retirement of Alex Rance.

A combination of Rioli, Broad, Liam Baker, Josh Caddy and Kane Lambert rolled through wing roles for the 'A' team in a sign of potential Ellis replacements.

Jack Higgins was lively in the front half for the 'B' team and is on track to make his return following brain surgery in the Tigers' first Marsh Community Series match against Collingwood.

Higgins will be vying for a forward role with exciting second-year utility Sydney Stack who played the entire intraclub in the front half.

Jack Ross and Riley Collier-Dawkins were prolific in midfield for the 'B' team before joining Stack, Oleg Markov (three goals), Derek Eggmolesse-Smith and Mabior Chol in the 'A' team after half-time.

They replaced the Tigers' six State of Origin representatives in a pointer to the likely line-up for the Marsh Community Series date with the Pies in Wangaratta on March 1.

Tom Lynch, Trent Cotchin, Dustin Martin, Bachar Houli (Victoria), Jack Riewoldt and Shane Edwards (All-Stars) will play in the Bushfire Relief game two days prior at Marvel Stadium.

Houli, who was late to his feet after a heavy contest on three-quarter time, sat out the final term with Cotchin.

The Tigers, who won the flag last year with two genuine ruckmen, will continue to trial different set-ups during pre-season as Nankervis returns to full fitness.

"We still talk about it every day, who is our best ruckman and best ruck combination," assistant coach Justin Leppitsch said.

"Soldo looks like he's got better and Toby's on his way back obviously. Then we've got our athletic forwards in Mabior, CJ (Coleman-Jones).

"It's going to be a real challenge."

Kamdyn McIntosh ran laps prior to the hitout as he recovers from an ankle injury he suffered in January, while draftee Thomson Dow was missing due to illness.

Foxsports reporter on SEN:

Richmond is looking pretty ominous.

Healthy list. Only Ellis (traded) & Nank missing from the premiership 22. Kmac the only other one coming back from injury (ran laps).

Houli & Cotch played 3/4ers.

A-term had Jack, Lynch & Dusty starting up forward and the rest cleared out.

Bolton - best on ground up to half-time
Markov impressed today.
Chol - rucked with Soldo and played well especially forward of the ball.
Ross - looked good in the midfield.
RCD - played mid, matched-up on Dusty, kicked a good running goal.

Richmond just keep finding good players.
