I called in at the SCG at noon today. It's been a little wet in Sydney, so they had the cricket pitches covered, in fact, almost the entire centre square.
Our coaching team was out in the middle for at least 15 minutes before the players came out. There was a bit of arm waving and guiding as I think they were talking about playing the wings at the SCG versus playing in the corridor. The ground is almost a circle, the wings are very wide.
Batch is the traveling emergency and he looked pretty sharp.
There didn't seem to be any players with major niggles as everyone was moving pretty smoothly.
The session was short, not much more than 40 minutes. With the middle covered they couldn't run any ball moving drills, so the forwards and a small group of mids practiced hitting up a leading forward from set plays outside 50, while the defenders went to the other end of the ground to practice clearances from deep inthe defensive 50.
There was a lot of talk and direction from within the playing group, I didn't notice too much coaching direction.
The forwards practiced goal kicking from each end and there were a couple of ball handling drills. The surface of the ground is pretty good.
I didn't get the impression that the team was burning with intensity yet, maybe that's coming tomorrow. Everyone looked pretty relaxed.
