Clubs get back to work
Herald-Sun
January 4, 2015

RICHMOND

The Tigers returned to Punt Rd on Monday morning with Dustin Martin training alongside his teammates after being cleared by police over the Chapel St incident.

Martin is still facing sanction from his club and/or the AFL as the league continues its report.

On the track, the players mixed ball work with running duties to kick-off its 2016 training.

Dropped in to training for a quick look this morning and one of the standouts was indeed Short. Heard one of the coaches talking to I think a player agent and he was gushing over Shorty. Said he has improved his fitness greatly and is a chance to get midfield time this year (I assume in the reserves). Mentioned another player - Menadue I think - who has had an injury but now OK and working at building strength and improving conditioning now.
I watched a couple of drills (named Batchelor and Vlastuin drills up on the scoreboard) and then a short match simulation. It was a bit difficult for my old eyes to make out some of the players but I did notice short. Also Kamdyn, Vlastuin, Houli were very good with hard running and good disposal, Dusty was also good. Couldn't work out who Soldo was for a while - he was moving well but he is now sooo skinny. Made Beanie look big.
Chol was playing CHF in a drill and looked good. Moves very well (agile) and is a good mark and kick. Looks very natural. No one will mark over the top of him - his leap is sensational!
Didn't see Yarran at all and Elton was running laps as was Drummond. Noticed some left footer kick the ball exquisitely and of course it turned out to be CEllis.
Not too much other than that to say.

Got to Training Monday morning.

2 interesting points.

1) Butler in the midfield during the scratch matches and doing well. My tip for the big improver smokey of the year.
2) McBean was a standout and looking ready for senior football.

Moore on a side note was also good.

Anyone who has been to training noticed Maurice's progeny?
Does he look AFL ready?
“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.

The Tigers have continued to train strongly since returning from their Christmas break, and will have forward Ben Lennon back in the main group as early as Friday after he dealt with a mild case of glandular fever.

Defender Alex Rance has returned in mint condition, having been given an extended break before Christmas.

The Tigers open their pre-season NAB Challenge series against Fremantle at Mandurah on Friday, February 19.
