Just as an aside, Lids was chatting about not being about to afford $1,000 for something or other and Richo quipped back  "you're the richest 20 year old I know"  :lol

Cheers MT.
Certainly not confirmed about Harts but I have heard that he is still around the club, so it makes for interesting gossip.
Would make sense if he was fighting it out with Howat...

Funny re Lids. :lol

One thing that stood out at training today was the extra height. Perhaps Plough has been converted lol.

Good to see the players in good spirits. They should hang in. Even if we have 1 more bad season next year, itll set up the club, especially if we have 2 early picks and 3 inside 20. Next years draft is a doozie. Set us up good for 2011 and 2012.

Just got back from watching training this morning. I popped in at around 10.45 but they actually trained from 9-12. No rehab group today although Connors did appear with his moonboot still on. Julz, Moi and Steph would have been happy. A warm day means shirts off.

Mostly tackling and close in work today. The NRL guys were helping out with the tackling drills. A couple of new and odd drills too. In one drill one player had to lie down on the ground while another laid on top with his shoulder pressing down and him rotating around. Miller said it's designed to build-up strength. Another drill was where they would pair up joined by an elastic rope tied around their waist. One player had to evade while the other tried to catch him. Greg said this was designed to improve their agility. While they were paired up they were also doing one where they would face each other and press their shoulders into each other alternating between left and right shoulders.

David King was taking groups through close-in kicking and handballing.

Later on the session Royal took Graham, Patto and the midfielders to work on ball-up set-ups. Foley, Tuck, Cogs, Edwards, Blingers, Cotchin, Collins, Hyde were some of the mids involved IIRC. I'll need to check my photos when I get home tonight.

Fanning, Putt and Sullivan (I think he was one wearing #48) did ruck practice with Monkhurst.

As for the newbies, Cotchin, Rance and Putt all trained. Putt has the Southern Cross (Aus flag style) tattooed on his back. Rance has a blonde streak at the back of his head. Looks a good size already. About Jack Riewoldt's height and solid looking. He looked comfortable at training. Showed no sign of first day nerves or anything. Very clean skills.

Silvester and Callinan were at training too. I didn't notice the others today that were on the permission to train list. No sign of Richards or Pfieffer. I was told a rumour that the club thought Richards was too slow. Another rumour has it Lachlan McKinnon broke his toe so that's why he no longer isn't training with us.

I didn't see the older blokes - Richo, Browny, Sugar and Joel so they either may have left early or didn't train today.

I took a couple of photos. Hopefully some are close-up as most of the time the squad trained away from us. I'll post them sometime tonight when I get home.

Always look forward to and appreciate the reports MT. Great stuff. :thumbsup

Pleasing. Pleasing. Pleasing. Our poor tackling is my pet hate. My sig tells the story.

How's young Collins looking? has he bulked up at all and do you think he might play any senior footy this year?
Also any noticeable increase in size in Shane Edwards? I love this kid. Reckon he'll be a gun.

No sign of Richards.... I was told a rumour that the club thought Richards was too slow.

That'll please the masses if true.

Was Gourdis there today? if so how did he look?

Cheers again Mighty one.

I didn't really notice any major change in either Collins or Edwards to be honest Magic. Perhaps Edwards is a fraction bigger in the upper arms/body but nothing that would make you go wow he's bulked up. I took photos of both so I'll post them later tonight when I get home from work.

I know it takes time but I hope these youngsters are hitting the weights as hard as they can.

Any idea of how many weights sessions they do per week?

Not sure Magic. I remember when Terry first got the job and he was talking about our players having tennis legs, he said we only did 3 sessions and he wanted to make it 11. IIRC it ended up being a compromise say 7 sessions.

I forgot to say before Tucky had some tape or something on his ear. Perhaps a result of some sparring in the ring.

Ta.

IMO all of these guys are undersized for AFL footy.

McGuane, Thursfield, Meyer, Collins, Hyde, Schulz, Oakley-Nicholls, Polak, Collins, Edwards, Riewoldt.

Must strengthen up and get weight and muscle on these footballers bones as much as possible.
We just don't intimidate opposition teams at all. :-\

Schulz has been told there's a position for him in the backline and he needs to finally get AFL fit.

Simmo has been doing specialist speed training btw. I presume similar to what Foley did last year.

Interesting. You can see that there is a spot there for him too. Polak, Thurst and Bowden just isn't enough size in defence.

I think Sarge could make a decent tall defender but the big issue is his stamina. There are massive question marks over his focus and ability to run out a game. I am also unconvinced by him at ground level.

Last chance for Jay Schulz.
He'd better get serious as his once promising career is fast slipping away..

No obvious clues as yet. It wouldn't now surprise me if we took Fanning in the PSD now. I'm guessing the ruck choice will come down to either Fanning or Sullivan (if that was him today). Sullivan is just as young and raw if not more so than Gus, Patto and Putt in the ruck so it probably makes sense if we go for the ready-made ruckman as back-up for Simmo who may be underdone match-fitness wise due to him being on Wafarin and unable to do any contact work until February.

Rookies are harder to guess as all 16 clubs get a go. We have picks 1, 17, 33 and 49. Silvester (backman), Gourdis (forward), Collard (mid) and Callinan/Howat (mid) could be the 4 but that's only me guessing. For all we know those 4 or 5 may be gone in the first round of the rookie draft.

Agree Magic. Sarge needs to work on getting to a level of fitness where he can make second, third, fourth efforts at a contest and last out an AFL game otherwise he'll be gone by this time next year.

In hindsight if the Club knew that Rance would slip to pick 18 then Schulz would probably be at Port Adelaide training now and we'd have whoever we wanted at pick 28 as there'd have been no need to ask for picks 16 and 18 to be swapped which is what in the end stopped the trade going through. The little quirks, swings, turns and roundabouts of the trade-draft system.
