Richmond had a 3km time trial at Princes Park on Tuesday morning and Burge nominated Daniel Butler, Nathan Drummond, Oleg Markov and Connor Menadue as the standouts.
"The pleasing thing is a lot of the younger guys in particular are doing a lot of work in the gym at the moment, trying to get their bodies stronger, and they're actually running better as well as a result of it so overall we're really pleased with how they've come back (from the Christmas break) and looking forward to the weeks ahead as our football program starts to really increase," he said.
The Tigers will have a training camp on the Sunshine Coast at the end of January before turning their focus to the JLT Community Series.
Richmond's first practice match of the year is against Adelaide at Etihad Stadium on February 24.
