Will we upgrade a rookie ahead of round 1?
« on: February 22, 2017, 02:19:31 AM »
Meanwhile, the Tigers have placed departed defender Chris Yarran on the long-term injury list for 2017, allowing them to upgrade a rookie ahead of round one.

Yarran retired after the club's final list lodgement last November and remains a listed player.

The move to place him on the long-term injury list could create opportunities for young Sudanese-born tall forward Mabior Chol, who has impressed over the pre-season.

Isn't Morris still on the LTI list as well?

Can't we just downgrade Hamspud, Hunt & Townsend then upgrade them all?

Not at the moment

Would need to be placed on there again for any part of 2017

Jason Castagna pressed his claims for an upgrade from Richmond’s rookie list to senior list, with a lively display up forward in last Friday night’s JLT Community Series win against Adelaide at Etihad Stadium.

Seems like a good player to upgrade if we need to or for reward. He went ok last year too.

Castagna will more than likely get the gig and probably deserves it at this stage but purely from a list perspective I'd prefer Moore or Chol....

Agree. We're desperately lacking talls both in defense and up forward.

Seem to have a plethora of mid/small sized runners at the moment.

Seriously?! After one preseason game you're willing to give him the nod?

Well actually if you read the post because you have made two sentences you have given the impression that you have made the decision based on one practice game and as an afterthought added in last years performance.

However in regards to Nank you believe Hampson is the better because Nank has only played one practice game for the RFC.  However Nank also played last year and done fairly well in the games he played.

So how come whats good enough for one player isn't good enough for another.

I call it inconsistency in argument but given what we all have to put up with you from past experience I wouldn't expect anything less.

The Tigers have a single list spot left to elevate a rookie after a settlement with retired defender Chris Yarran cleared space.

It means any of Jason Castagna, Mabior Chol, Cal Moore, Ivan Soldo or Tyson Stengle could be elevated before Round 1.

Castagna seems the clear favourite given his three-goal performance from eight possessions in the JLT series clash over Adelaide.

Small forward Stengle has impressed over the summer and ruckman Soldo continues to gain ground but were not chosen in last week’s win over the Crows.
