Eat my dust: Martin's Brownlow bolt goes on

ANOTHER superb game from Richmond superstar Dustin Martin saw the Tiger stretch his lead in AFL.com.au's Brownlow Medal predictor after his fourth best-on-ground performance in five matches.

Only last year's Brownlow winner, Geelong's Patrick Dangerfield, is within touching distance of Martin.

Our predictor gave Martin three votes against Port Adelaide for his 36 disposals and important goal in Richmond's 13-point victory.

His tally of 23 votes is ahead of Dangerfield (19), Greater Western Sydney's Josh Kelly (16) and Adelaide's Rory Sloane and Geelong's Joel Selwood (both on 15).

Martin's hot patch saw him firm to $2.75 to take 'Charlie' home with CrownBet on Monday morning. Dangerfield remained favourite at $2.25.

Sloane was on the third line of betting at $13.

Dangerfield has been in his own hot patch, having picked up nine votes in his last four games.

His tremendous effort against Greater Western Sydney at Spotless Stadium on Saturday night helped a Selwood-less Cats outfit draw with the Giants.

Dangerfield finished with 45 disposals, 25 contested possessions and a goal.

Think Danger might cop a week . AFL will look ridiculously inconsistent if he doesn't.

Dusty will then have it in the bag . Well done Dusty  :clapping

No way he will get a week.

Afl are the biggest crooks in the business and he will get off. If it was jake Batchelor or jack crisp they would cop a week any day of the week.

A scenario along the lines of Dangerfield getting a week and going to the tribunal to contest and then get off appealing may take place.

Means AFL are 'consistent' in their ruling, but Dangerfield gets to plead his case and the tribunal 'happens' to rule in his favour.

Don't care much for the Brownlow but wouldn't people prefer if he won it outright instead of by default, with an asterisk next to his name and on a night where all the air is sucked out of the room because another bloke received more votes?

Agree.

I feel like Cotchin was actually robbed of the feeling of winning a clean brownlow coz of the cheating scum, and as supporters we weren't able to share and enjoy the moment either.

The AFL website's Brownlow predictor has Dusty miles out in front irrespective of whether Dangerfield is rubbed out or not.

The AFL.com.au Brownlow predictor did not award Dangerfield a vote for his 23-disposal and two-goal game against the Blues.

Meanwhile, Martin was again prolific, notching up 34 disposals and a goal as the Tigers posted a 33-point victory against Gold Coast at Metricon Stadium.

Martin was considered best-on-ground for that performance – the seventh time that has happened in Richmond's past nine matches.

It left the powerful midfielder with a tally of 32 votes. Dangerfield sat second with 24 while Hawthorn ball-winner Tom Mitchell trailed far behind, on 19.

If Dangerfield is banned for the tackle that left Carlton ruckman Matthew Kreuzer concussed on Saturday night, Dustin Martin is in line to win the Brownlow Medal by the biggest margin ever.

The greatest margin anyone has taken the Brownlow by was Richmond's Roy Wright, when he tallied 29 votes to finish 10 ahead Collingwood's Neil Mann.

Good point but no

I'm sure the afl will ensure dusty wins outright now

Ironic though it was our beloved jimmy hird who won it in 1995 after mckernan polled the most votes

Hard to see a Brownlow medalist prized out of a club now, but if it's going to happen it would happen to us

I reckon Geelong should be outraged by this amateur decision & appeal!  What could possibly go wrong?     :santa

Geelong have to appeal. If they don't Dangerfield is definitely out of the Brownlow. Need to roll the dice and appeal. Worse case it is two weeks without Dangerfield and that isn't going to kill their season.
