...and just to make everyone feel even better...just showed on Fox Footy that Cameron's smother of Martin's set shot should've been a 50 metre penalty to Martin, which would've taken him to the goal square....

50 metre penalty to Dustin Martin late in the game not called

FOX SPORTS

SATURDAY ended in Richmond heartbreak — but a review of the footage from late in the loss to GWS shows that maybe it shouldn’t have.

With just under three minutes remaining, Dustin Martin took a mark at the edge of the Tigers' forward 50 metre arc and went back to take some time ahead of a set shot.

Jeremy Cameron came forward to stand on the mark, eventually smothering the kick. But vision analysed on Fox Footy’s Saturday Scoreboard showed that Cameron appeared to infringe over the mark.

With no play on call made by the umpire, this should have gifted Martin a 50 metre penalty and a shot at goal from the goalsquare which may have sealed the result — as it would have forced GWS to kick two goals in just over two minutes to win.

“The rule, letter by letter, it is a 50 metre penalty,” Ben Dixon said on Saturday Scoreboard.

The other issue in the incident was that Shaun Grigg was standing lateral to the mark, which arguably should have seen the umpire send the Tiger away and allow Martin to take his kick.

“The umpire was actually watching lateral to Dustin Martin, the contest there, whether there was going to be a handball receive and whether the other player was going to be encroaching into his space,” Dixon said.

“It’s a touchy one but by the rules of the game, 50 metres.”

In the end, what appeared to be a match-sealing goal for Richmond from debutant Shai Bolton was reviewed and called a behind. After the review GWS stormed down the field and ironically had Jeremy Cameron kick the winning major.

“They (the players) probably didn’t even pick it up themselves out there,” Brad Johnson said on Fox Footy.

The loss was Richmond’s third straight by less than a goal. Only eight teams in VFL/AFL history have achieved that unfortunate feat, and since the Tigers’ last premiership in 1980, only one has. Richmond — twice.

Robbo's view:

4. Bad luck or bad umpiring?

It’s bad umpiring. Not paying a 50m penalty against Jeremy Cameron for creeping — sorry, charging — three metres over the mark to smother Dustin Martin was as poor a decision we’ll see this year. Richmond’s players and coaches are being belted around the ears for what happened, and so too should the umpire. As much as the Tigers lost control of the fundamentals of the game, so did the field umpire who got lost in the drama and allowed Cameron to do what he did. The 50m penalty would have meant a goal to Martin and a win to Richmond. The AFL can’t defend this one. They should admit it was wrong and apologise to the Tigers.

We should never been in a position for this to affect us if we had kicked straight. Having said that, we got right royally screwed again.  3 umpires out there and we're supposed to believe none of them saw Cameron charging 3 metres over the mark  ::). Stuff yet another apology too if one is offered. It doesn't get us back the 4 points.

Enough of the excuses look at the 2nd quarter and last for why we lost.

"Oh but we will learn from this" even the midget with one leg is trotting out this line.

League ticks off no 50m call for Dusty

afl.com.au
22 May 2017

THE AFL says the correct decision was made not to award Richmond star Dustin Martin a 50m penalty in the dying stages of the Tigers' three-point loss to GWS on Saturday.

With just under three minutes remaining in the game, Martin took a mark just outside the Tigers' forward 50m arc.

Greater Western Sydney forward Jeremy Cameron stepped in to man the mark, and as Martin took the kick, his teammate Shaun Grigg attempted to shepherd the Giant away.

Cameron then moved forward on an angle to step around Grigg, smothering Martin's kick.

With no 'play on' call, some commentators were baffled by the umpire's decision not to pay a 50m penalty to Martin, as they considered Cameron had stepped over the mark.

But a spokesperson for the League's umpiring department told AFL.com.au the umpire had informed Cameron that the actual mark was still half a metre in front of where he was currently standing.

"We don't think it's a 50," the spokesperson said.

"It is a reset at best. All Cameron tries to do is get away from Grigg, who tries to put a block on him.

"What should have been done at best is to have stopped play and asked Grigg to move out of the area."

There have been suggestions by several football commentators that Cameron infringed on the mark as he failed to move along the 'east-west' line.

However, the AFL umpiring department has confirmed the rules state that players manning the mark in their defensive third of the ground are not restricted to moving laterally along the mark, and can move on an angle.

Yeah, it was so right an umpiring decision that no one at the AFL had the guts to put their name publicly to it  :whistle. Cameron charged 3 metres forward (not laterally  ::) ) from where he was standing. It wasn't a half-metre step forward to stand a mark  ::)

what utter stuffing garbage, they made this poo up on the spot, he stuffing runs forward and smothers the ball and they show clearly that he was on the mark, they spoke about the mark 3 stuffing times indicating where it is, HE POINTED TO IT and three metres is not one metre even if his feeble lie were to hold water.  POS cheating bastards at least admit when you were WRONG.
