Campbell traded to North Melbourne

By Richmond Media

Richmond AFLW midfielder Grace Campbell will continue her career at North Melbourne after a trade was reached today.

In exchange for Campbell, Richmond receives selection 43 in the 2020 NAB AFLW Draft.

Campbell was signed to the Tigers' VFLW list after attending a Shepparton Come and Try Day in late 2018, before being elevated to their inaugural AFLW side in July, 2019.

The 24-year-old played five out of a possible six games in Richmond’s maiden AFLW season and finished equal fourth in Club’s Best and Fairest.

Richmond Head of Women’s Football, Kate Sheahan, thanked Campbell for her time at the Club.

"We thank Grace for her contribution to our inaugural AFLW season. She’s an incredibly tough and courageous footballer," Sheahan said.

"We wish her all the best for her future endeavours at North Melbourne."

Hosking becomes a Tiger
Sarah Hosking has become Richmond’s first recruit of the 2020 AFLW Sign and Trade Period, after a deal with Carlton was confirmed today.

By Richmond Media

The Tigers used their end of first-round compensation draft pick (No. 15 overall, No. 9 Victorian), which had to be traded for ready-made talent, to secure the 24-year-old.

The experienced midfielder arrives at Tigerland with all 30 of Carlton’s AFLW games to her name, having not missed a match since debuting in the very first AFLW game in 2017.

Hosking, the identical twin of Carlton player Jess, was also a member of the Blues’ leadership group in 2020.

Known for her contested ability and willingness to put her head over the ball, she averaged 12 disposals, three marks and three tackles across the 2020 season.

Richmond Head of Women’s Football, Kate Sheahan, said Hosking would bring a wealth of experience to the Tigers’ young list.

“We’re very excited to have secured a player of Sarah’s calibre and are looking forward to what she’ll be able to bring to the Club,” Sheahan said.

“She’s a proven leader and is also coming from a Club that has had recent on-field success and finals experience.

“We believe she’ll be a significant addition to our midfield with her athleticism and professionalism, and think she’ll be a great support to our young midfielders.”

Trade Period preview: Dees bracing for exodus, Tigers eye reinforcements
Sarah Black

ALL ROADS lead to Melbourne ahead of the 2020 AFLW Sign and Trade Period, while Richmond is set to bring in four players.

The Demons have a whopping six players (a fifth of their list), headed by star midfielder Elise O'Dea, expected to land at other clubs over the 10-day period, which kicks off on Monday at noon.

O'Dea, who co-captained the club during Daisy Pearce's pregnancy in 2019, is a contracted player but now wishes to continue her career at Carlton.

The expectation is the deal won't be straightforward and it could take some days for an agreement to be reached.

With an older list and a tight soft cap, the Demons are looking towards the NAB AFLW Draft, having only made four relatively late selections in the 2019 edition.

Melbourne key defender Harriet Cordner (Richmond), utility Bianca Jakobsson (St Kilda), speedsters Aliesha Newman (Collingwood) and Maddy Guerin (Carlton) and young leader Katherine Smith (has been linked to both GWS and Gold Coast) are expected to be at different clubs in 2021.

The two other high-profile deals expected to be completed involve Carlton's Sarah Hosking and Collingwood's Sarah D'Arcy, with the duo linked to Richmond.

After a winless first season, the Tigers were granted "competition assistance" in the form of an end-of-first-round draft pick (15), under the condition it was traded to another team to bring in mature talent. It will be heading to Ikon Park in return for Hosking.

Richmond's head of women's footy Kate Sheahan and recruiter Lauren Tesoriero are former Pies players, and D'Arcy won't be the only Collingwood player heading to Punt Road, with improving midfielder Sarah Dargan also on the move.

Top sides North Melbourne and Fremantle will be looking towards list maintenance rather than wholesale changes, with the Dockers set to re-sign young stars Roxy Roux, Hayley Miller and Mim Strom.

Adelaide, GWS, St Kilda and the Western Bulldogs are set to take a comparatively small part in the trade period, while Geelong and Brisbane will be very quiet.

West Coast and Gold Coast – who both played their first seasons in the AFLW this year – are reportedly looking towards the draft, although the Eagles will snare Irish Bulldogs midfielder Aisling McCarthy in return for their own competition assistance draft pick (16).

Other moves to watch:

- Jayde Van Dyk, who missed most of 2020 with an ankle injury, to move from Carlton to St Kilda

- Young Pies forward Katie Lynch is expected to head to the Western Bulldogs

- Tasmanian Abbey Green to swap from North Melbourne to Collingwood, shoring up its ruck division following the retirement of Eliza Hynes

- First-year Dog Hannah Munyard to return home to South Australia and play for Adelaide. A second-round pick has been mentioned as a possible trade

The trade period will finish at 2pm on Wednesday, 12 August, however players can continue to be re-signed and restricted free agents – a new status in 2020 – can move clubs until 2pm on Monday, 17 August.

Players qualify for restricted free agent status if their club offer a lower-tier contract (there are four levels of pay) than they were previously on. If a rival club has a better offer, their existing club can either match or allow the player to freely move.

Delisted free agents may still find a new home until 2pm, Friday 21 August, after which the AFLW draft order will be confirmed.

Clubs can sign up to 27 players (including up to three rookies) before the draft, a date for which has not yet been set.

Our greatest need is natural midfielders to help out Conti and we trade out one of our most promising young midfielders.   :banghead :banghead :banghead :banghead

There playing fantasy footy in the RFCW program
They have no idea what theyre doing. How many wooden spoons do we have to get before we move on the people who have run a terrible program.
The reason they havent hired a coach is because they wanted to run the trade season themselves. Its just terrible stuff.Gale needs to take responsibility for hiring these amateurs.

Sheehans trade record so far:

Massive Fails:
1. Brennan
2. Federicks
3. Bernardi
4. Grace Egan - was on our list and failed to pre-list her.  Instead she listed a heap of duds instead.  A major f up. Then made her listing mistake worse by letting Carlton have her.  Would be our best player
5. Grace Campbell - gave her away to North for bugger all.

Wins:
1. Monahan
2. Conti - cost us pick 1 so a big price to pay

TBD:
1. Hoskings for Victorian pick 9

Seems she has a problem with attractive girls called Grace.  if it was anyone else they would have been rissole'd by now.  Its hard enough to build a club from scratch without these sort of decisions.  How can you fail to identify a talent like Grace Egan when she is in our own stuffing program  :banghead :banghead :banghead

2020 Trade update:

In:
S Hosking - Carlton
S D'Arcy - Pies
S Dargan - Pies
H Cordner - Melb
Pick 43 - North

All solid depth players - not stars

Out:
Pick 15 (pick 9 in Vic)
Pick 17 (pick 10 in Vic)
Pick 31
Pick 45
Grace Campbell

Means we might win a game next year but still don't have any real young talent outside of Conti and No.1 pick this year Ellie McKenzie who will be star

We don't have a coach because no one with any idea wants to take on a list built by Sheehan

We could have had 3 picks in the top 10 in the Vic Metro draft pool.  A lot of talent in that pool this year.

The top 2 in the draft are standouts and then another 8-10 very good players after that.  Makes trading Campbell for a pick around 25 in that pool even more baffling

Tigers welcome trio

richmondfc.com.au
4 August 2020

Richmond has welcomed three more Tigers to its AFLW list, Collingwood duo Sarah D’Arcy and Sarah Dargan, and Melbourne’s Harriet Cordner, after a trade with the three clubs was confirmed on Tuesday.

The complex three-way deal ultimately saw Richmond trade its draft picks 17, 31 and 45 in exchange for the trio.

Head of Women’s Football Kate Sheahan said the Club was pleased to get the deal done and secure three experienced players.

"We worked really closely with the two other clubs so that all parties involved were satisfied," Sheahan said.

"We’re incredibly excited to get it sorted at the start of the trade period and to welcome Sarah, Harriet and Sarah to Richmond."

D’Arcy, a Magpie since the AFLW’s inception, has 24 games to her name and was in Collingwood’s leadership group in 2019.

The 28-year-old forward is a life-long Richmond supporter and is also related to Tiger legend Jack Titus.

"Sarah will add plenty of experience to our side. She’s also a great contested mark and very strong aerially," Sheahan said.

"She’s a really smart footballer and we’re looking to reinvent her as an attacking half-back."

Cordner, the granddaughter of Melbourne club legend Don Cordner, was recruited by the Demons as a Category B rookie ahead of the maiden AFLW season.

The 28-year-old has been a pillar in Melbourne’s defence, playing 25 games across four seasons.

"Harriet is fantastic aerially and her ability to play multiple roles, in defence or in the ruck will provide us with a heap of versatility," Sheahan said.

"She has honed her craft at Melbourne and done a really good job of being that anchor in their backline."

Dargan, 21, played 14 games for Collingwood across three seasons after being taken by the Magpies with pick No. 20 in the 2017 draft.

The young gun, who received a Rising Star nomination in Round 4, 2019, has an impressive goal sense and damaging left-foot kick.

"Sarah is an emerging player in the league and we think she’ll fit right in to our culture here at Richmond," Sheahan said.

"We’re excited to be able to offer her some different playing opportunities."

The Tigers have now signed four players throughout the 2020 Sign and Trade period, welcoming star midfielder Sarah Hosking to the Club yesterday.

Richmond currently holds selections No. 1 and No. 43 in the 2020 NAB AFLW Draft and will be allocated an additional pick when the order is confirmed.

AFLW Sign and Trade Wrap: Tigers welcome four, 16 re-sign

By Grace Kalac
Richmond Media
13 August 2020

The AFLW Sign and Trade Period has reached its conclusion, with Richmond securing the talents of four new Tigers.

It was a busy start for Richmond, who welcomed midfielder Sarah Hosking in the first deal of the trade period last Monday.

The first of three Sarahs added to the Tigers’ list, the former Blue arrived at Tigerland in exchange for pick 15, Richmond's end of first-round compensation pick which had to be traded for ready-made talent.

Day two involved a complex three-way trade with Melbourne and Collingwood which resulted in three players crossing over to Richmond, Magpie duo Sarah D’Arcy and Sarah Dargan, and Demon Harriet Cordner.

The Tigers traded draft picks 17, 31 and 45 in exchange for the trio, while gaining pick 43 in a separate trade with North Melbourne in exchange for Grace Campbell.

Richmond's Head of Women's Football Kate Sheahan was delighted the Tigers had achieved their goal of adding experience to their 2021 list.

'We're extremely excited with the talent that's coming into the program and it's been great that we could spread it across the park," Sheahan said.

Sixteen inaugural Tigers also recommitted to the Club throughout the Sign and Trade Period, making it a total of 27 players now locked in for 2021.

The Club has informed players Ciara Fitzgerald, Nekaela Butler and Emma Horne they will not be offered contracts for the 2021 season.

Sheahan thanked all three players for their commitment to the Tigers’ inaugural AFLW season.

“On behalf of everyone at Richmond, I would like to thank Ciara, Nekaela and Emma for their contributions to our Club,” Sheahan said.

“We wish them all the best for their future endeavours.”

Richmond also bids farewell to Lauren Tesoriero, Laura Bailey and Ella Wood, who have announced their retirements.

The Tigers currently hold selections No. 1 and 43 in the 2020 NAB AFLW Draft, and will be allocated an additional pick when the order is confirmed on Friday, August 21.

“We think the top five girls in this year’s draft are a pretty good bunch, so we weren’t prepared to overlook that opportunity to take the best talent in the country (with pick No. 1),” Sheahan said.

“We’re looking for someone who is essentially ready-made, who can step into our team and have an impact.”

The Club is yet to appoint its 2021 AFLW senior coach.

“We’re going through a thorough process to identify the right candidate for the role,” Sheahan said.
