I dont mind being scheduled there from time to time. But what pees me off is that Richmond and Melbourne are gernerally drawn to play there and carlton collingwood essendon and hawthorn never get drawn there. Fair is fair. All or none

Then when can discuss membership base and annual attendances over periods of time. You will find we trump most of those clubs. But i still think first part is more worthy of debate

I agree. I think Geelong should be able to play all of their home games at KP regardless of attendance. It is their home ground after all and they are doing a good job of upgrading the stadium. I just think it's rubbish that we're the only one of the big Melbourne clubs that have to make the trip.

I think they should if they upgraded the ground to take 70k.

Shift of Cats-Tigers clash not on, says AFL

THE AFL has no plans to move Geelong's round 21 clash with Richmond at Simonds Stadium over crowd capacity fears.

With both sides now sitting in the top four, the clash looms as fixture that would draw a far bigger crowd than the 36,000-capacity venue would allow.

However, AFL football operations manager Simon Lethlean told SEN on Tuesday that the game would only be moved if Geelong wanted so.

"I don't think this would be a game that we would be moved given it's a Geelong home game. It's been fixed with certainty, so it's not on our radar to be moving it at this stage," Lethlean said.

"I think it's a suggestion that's not coming from the AFL or Geelong, and I don't think in my time we've moved a game.

"Geelong has a new venue, they have memberships they sell with seven (home) games, and we're supportive at this stage of supporting a club in their right to host home games once they've been fixtured.

"If Geelong came to us and said we want to move our home game to another venue that is available, we'd certainty consider it."

Geelong acting CEO Justin Reeves said on Monday the club had no plans to move the game against the Tigers away from Simonds Stadium.

"We doubt it could be done and we certainly wouldn't support it," Reeves told Fairfax Media.

"It's certainly the first we've heard of it."

Why doesn't someone just as the AFL why Collingwood, Carlton and Essendon don't play down there.
Does anyone know the last time one of them did?

Well Cloke said when the Throwdogs played down there weeks ago it was his first time playing on the ground. It must be 15+ years since the Pies have been to Geelong.

Will not be moved unless Geelong request it and I can't see that happening.....

Not exactly a huge revelation given that's exactly what the AFL said this morning. In fact, they stated it's a long standing principle given the home team sells it hospitality and reserved seating well in advance....,
“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.

Never said it was a huge revelation. Just that may posters were saying it may happen. I pointed out that it won't. That's all.
OER. Calling it as it is since 2004.

Geelong says suggestion Simonds Stadium inadequate for Richmond exposed as untrue

JAY CLARK,
Herald Sun
26 July 2017

GEELONG is adamant it can cater for Richmond’s supporter base in its Round 21 clash at Simonds Stadium with more than 3000 tickets still available.

The AFL has shut down calls to move the game to the MCG following claims the Cats’ revamped home base was too small to host the contest between the top-four aspirants.

Geelong officials said any suggestion the venue was inadequate, or that a significant number of fans will be locked out of the game, have been “completely exposed as untrue” based on the number of tickets still available.

A portion of the seats may have to be resold to Geelong fans if Tiger members do not exhaust their allocation.

That includes 450 Richmond away members’ tickets, more than 2000 general admission tickets, 500 reserved seats, plus any extra seats which are expected to become available through the Cats’ resold seat program.

Surprisingly, in total, more tickets have been sold for Geelong’s home game against Sydney Swans at Simonds Stadium on Friday week, than the clash against the Tigers the following round.

Geelong spokesman Kevin Diggerson said there were “literally thousands of tickets still available” for fans of both sides.

They are expected to remain on-sale through Ticketmaster right up until the day of the game.

“The notion that Simonds Stadium is not big enough to host Richmond on August 12 is a furphy,” Diggerson said.

“Any move to have Geelong’s home game against Richmond played at Richmond’s home ground because Simonds Stadium supposedly cannot hold all of the Richmond supporters has been completely exposed as untrue.

“Anyone who wants a ticket can get one. They are available.”

The past two games between the two teams at the MCG have attracted 45,000 fans, including Melbourne Cricket Club members.

The capacity for Simonds Stadium is 34,000 following a $193 million redevelopment spanning 14 years.

The next phase would help increase the capacity by another 4000.

The AFL has confirmed the Round 21 match had been “fixed with certainty”.

“I don’t think this would be a game that we would be moved given it’s a Geelong home game,” then AFL football operations boss Simon Lethlean said last month.

“It’s not on our radar to be moving it at this stage. I think it’s a suggestion that’s not coming from the AFL or Geelong, and I don’t think in my time we’ve moved a game.”

The Cats want to host finals at the boutique stadium and could host back-to-back matches against Greater Western Sydney in Round 23 and the first final at Simonds Stadium.

The club is keen to play all 11 home games at Simonds Stadium.

"Literally thousands"  :huh I am not sure when 2000 has ever been "literally thousand"

Facts are the ground's capacity is 34k

Richmond has 70k members

Geelong has IIRC just under 50k

So to suggest that venue can cater for ALL members of both clubs is well a FURPHY

I don't have an issue with the game being in Geelong, I have no intentions of ever going there anyway. It's their home ground and imo they should be able to play all of their home games there. My beef is that we're always the ones drawn to play there while others are exempt.
