Tigers set to unveil their secret weapon

Richmond captain Kane Johnson believes Patrick Bowden could be the ‘X-factor’ that helps the Tigers take the next step in 2006.

“Patrick’s been sensational so far,” Johnson said.

“He hasn’t said much, which is good from a bloke that’s just comes into the Club, but he’s starting to get his voice going now.

“He’s impressed everyone with everything he’s done on the track and I reckon, used properly, he could be something of a surprise weapon for us this year.

“I think he could be a really good tall half-forward type of player that roams up the ground, opens up our forward line, and is capable of kicking about 30 goals for the season.”

Johnson regards the younger brother of Richmond’s back-to-back Jack Dyer Medallist Joel, as a good foil for veteran superstar forward Matthew Richardson.

“He’s very fit and he’s already proven he can kick goals and play well at the level, so I can see him taking some pressure off ‘Richo’,” Johnson said.

“With blokes like him, who have come across from another league club, you’ve got to get the most out of them in their first year with you, because they’ve really got something to prove at their new club.

“I’m certainly looking forward to Patrick having a very good year first-up with us . . .”

Bowden, 24, 191cm and 89kg, was traded by the Western Bulldogs to Richmond in exchange for a fourth-round draft pick at the end of last season.

He has played 50 games and kicked 55 goals since making his senior league debut in 2001.

Is there anyone else here that kinda cringed at this statement? "He’s very fit and he’s already proven he can kick goals and play well at the level"

When did he play well for the Dogs?

There's no I in team, but there is 5 i's in Individual Brilliance.

I think Sugar got that line from Tezza lol.

Wallace said today that Pat Bowden has good speed and endurance and has always looked good at this time of year at training. Terry seems to judge him mainly by what he remembers Bowden to be like at the dogs and what he has done since arriving at Punt Rd.  I don't reckon Terry will be use him up forward as he was at the Dogs. More half-back/wing.

he was gr8 for the dogs, bar for last yr where he tanked it on purpose cos he didnt want to be there.
his heart was never there, he wanted to be released and traded the yr b4 but rocket did not allow it. he wasnt happy so did not care or give it his all.

watch him be a fantastic player for us as his heart and passion is with the tiges

im a big fan of his as i know what he can do and how he can improve our team

Nothing like going out on a limb with my first post here ::)

Patrick Bowden will be in our top 22 all year.  TW will give him the chance and he will grab it with both hands. (lets hope anyway)

Wouldn't be surprised if he finshed in our top 5 goalkickers either.

Now let the Fluffy Tiger bashing begin.

We might bash fluffy lions or fluffy swans or magpies, but never fluffy tigers.
Welcome Fluffy  :)

Jury's out on Bowden here until I see him play.  Going on reports from Doggies supporters here at work, they were glad to get rid of him, so he's got a lot to answer his critics.  His brother took a while, so hopefully it's a family trait and we're going to see the best of him  :thumbsup

Hey Tiger Faithful.

I am also new to the Tiger Forum (Longtime reader, first time Writer).

Got to give the kid a go, I have watched him numerous times at Werribee, he can play. As "mightytigers" stated he didn't want to be at the dogs (who could lame him).

Good luck Paddy.

Last year he went from being in the Doggies best in their first 3 games to doing nothing and ending up in the VFL IIRC. If that was a tank then it's pretty impressive lol. Btw credit should go to X about Paddy tanking ;).

Welcome Fluffy and JBF to OER :).
