Can we play two ruckmen?
« on: July 17, 2017, 01:30:21 PM »
Dimma clearly saw something the rest of us didn't playing two rucks yesterday :huh3 and going by what he said post-match will play both Soldo and Nank again.

Tick for Tigers’ tall timber

Richmond coach Damien Hardwick was pleased with the collective output of the team’s big-man combination of Toby Nankervis and Ivan Soldo in yesterday’s 31-point victory over Brisbane at Etihad Stadium.

The Tigers selected Soldo for the match to provide Nankervis with some much-needed back-up in the ruck department, and the 204cm, 106kg, 21-year-old, playing just his third AFL game, did just that.

He had eight disposals, two marks, four tackles, 23 hit-outs and, along with Nankervis, helped Richmond gain the important first use of the ball at the centre bounces and around-the-ground stoppages throughout the contest.

Nankervis, who became a big target at times for the Tigers up forward, through the addition of Soldo in the line-up, finished with 18 disposals, including 10 contested possessions, four inside-50s, four marks and 14 hit-outs.

“I thought Soldo in and around the ruck contest was very good,” Hardwick said.

“He’s still learning the game . . . he’s been playing for three-odd years.

“He’s got a bit of an area for improvement, but I love what he gives in and around the contest.

“And ‘Nank’, up forward, provided a contest a number of times.

“He gave off a couple (of goals). Probably didn’t get to be the marking option inside 50 we were looking for, but mainly that was because of our ball use inside 50.

“So we’ll have a look at it again, I think.”

I would like us to experiment with a full team of ruckmen, tactical genius.  Instead of tapping it down to a rover, tap it up to another ruckman and just play keepings off.  If you don't like my plan, get stuffed.

Really didn't notice Nank on the ground much.

Was hoping he'd do more in the F50 but delivery was terrible let's be honest...

No we cant because Ivan S is nowhere near it atm.

We just need a player who can give Nank a becent chop out  for short periods. But we need  desperately a few tall fwds .

Havent totally given up on Elton and he is a better overall option than Soldo ATM  and i reckon Moore has to be played ive thought that all yr.
And before people jump up and down I know the cupboard is bare  but lets at least TRY  and address the elephants in the room.

With Griff going down again, it looks like we'll have to persist with playing both Nank and Soldo for the rest of the season. Hard to see Elton getting another go.

Yep.

Thought we were so much better when Nank went into the ruck. Though in fairness I thought Soldo's final qtr was good

With the weather forecast it shows how little options we have. List Management very poor. Seems each year for the last 3 years we have had a glaring hole. Small Forwards and Ruckman the last 2 years and now a key position forward.

Up against man mumford i think soldo did ok apart from giving away a few stupid free kicks.
Our hit out to advantage was only 4 for the game?
