Young Tiger signs on for two more

RICHMOND has confirmed a new two-year deal for young West Australian Kamdyn McIntosh as it continues to re-sign its key out-of-contract players around free agent Dustin Martin.

McIntosh recently signed a new deal that will take him through to the end of 2019, with Richmond keen to secure the 23-year-old after he rebounded impressively from a serious ankle injury last year.

The Tigers announced a two-year extension for prized small forward Daniel Rioli last week, and in May extended midfielder Shaun Grigg's contract by one season, with Martin's negotiations not holding up the Tigers' other list decisions.

McIntosh has played every game since round two and missed only one game this season after his 2016 campaign was wiped out because of injury.

"He's an important player to us and we're really pleased with the way he's developed and will continue to develop," list manager Dan Richardson told AFL.com.au.

"He's one of a number of players in a strong group aged 23 or under who are starting to get a reasonable amount of football under their belts and are starting to play some football together.

"Kamdyn's strengths are his running power and his speed, and we've got him to play some roles as a taller defender and a mix between half-back and wing."

McIntosh was recruited with pick No.31 in the 2012 NAB AFL Draft and has played 44 games since making his debut in a breakout 2015 season. He has averaged 15.9 possessions this season.

Twelve senior-listed players remain out of contract on the club's list as negotiations to re-sign free agent Martin stretch into the final months of the season.

That number includes a portion of Tigers fighting to extend their AFL careers, while Ivan Maric has announced he will retire at the end of the season.

The club also has rookie listed players Jason Castagna and Tyson Stengle making strong cases for promotion to the senior list in 2018.

Good news.

I like what this kid brings.

He has learned to use his body strength this year breaking tackles and doesn't panic when under pressure.

I can see him playing a lot of footy off half back in the Stratton mould from Hawthorn but with extra run and carry.

I would like to see a backline of

Grimes  Rance  Vlastuin
Short  Lever :shh  McIntosh

Every player other than Short can play on smalls and talls, which gives you great variety and all will contribute when we win the footy back.
No more Houli or BEllis in the backhalf and no more Grigg ever.

Sure you want to leave Astbury out? He has been the second most important back for us this season easy.
