An explanation would be the sensible thing to do.
Firstly, I'd like to know why I can't ask a question about the footy club membership poster or post an opinion about it.
Tigeritis, I didn't remove the post but it was obvious why it and all the posts that followed were removed. A thread about memberships turned into one about gays, why you brought up gays, you being a "creationist", etc ... What that all had to do with footy and memberships is anyone's guess
. It was all totally irrelevant to the membership thread and the football board and so was snipped.
Secondly, I'd like to know why theres double standards in respect to what's deleted and what isn't deleted.
As we've mentioned to others who have posed this question in the past, most posters wouldn't know what goes on behind the scenes and what we do as mods unless it directly affects them. By no means do we think we are perfect, but, to our best efforts, we as mods apply the same rules to everyone as we've done since OER started way back in 2004. If we inadvertently miss something, it's because we aren't on the forum 24/7 (we have a real life outside this forum) and there's been no 'report to the moderator'.
Thirdly, I'd like an explanation in regards to a deleted post and hopefully an understanding may be appreciated or atleast engage in dialogue to sort out problem, especially when deleted posts haven't broken any site rules.
If we don't explain an edit or deletion then it's because to us as mods the post or posts were obviously against the forum guidelines. It would be totally unrealistic time-wise to expect us to explain every single edit. We have stated regularly over the history of the forum for people to use the 'report to moderator' function or contact us directly by PM if they have a question or seek an explanation.
Welcome to the world of the real. Half the stuff i post is deleted and no explanation.
Not even breaking site rules. Just straight up threads like the George Pell thread where people (adults) post their views and big brother glides over from above and closes the thread.
Again no explanation.
The site is a victim of PC.
Come off it, Dooks. Did you see what was posted? Since when has personal attacks and abuse, calling people the C-word and threatening to meet up and physically harm another poster been acceptable on the forum? Hardly PC overkill or the behaviour of reasonable adults posting their views. That's why the thread was locked.
In fact, over the past few days there's been a ridiculous surge in personal insults and abuse by some posters simply to target and snipe another poster they don't like, rate and/or disagree with. Frustratingly, this abuse ends up swamping on-topic opinions and threads
.
