balta is a 19yo who has hardly played in defence at the top level. of course he has to learn the ropes he really is the only player we have who looks remotely capable of replacing Rance.

This week the crows will play Walker 194/100 kg and Jenkins 199/100kg and people want undersized blokes like Grimes and Broad to take em on.
Garthwaite isnt exactly a monster either at least Balta has the size to go with  one of them.I dont think we have a choice but play Balta down back this week.
We play undersized every week with so many smalls who give little in a lot of cases and in most cases are asked to play on bigger medium types
We are out sized and lose big time in height not to talls but mediums. But to then insist we play  undersized talls on the oppo talls only exacerbates the entire problem.

Shame there isn't a mid-season recruiting opportunity to cover our gaps.

Oh wait.

Should have put Rance on LTI and instead of getting Pickett gone after some KP's or bigger inside mids...
I don't think the club thought that there was any defender worth getting so they went for the best player possible.....
OER. Calling it as it is since 2004.

Mate a bit of perspective we have been killed by injuries and any side with our amount would struggle to field players in all those roles common  logic.

Fmd we need to find a spot for this guy.

I am legit when I say Nank ruck, Chol forward/2nd ruck, and Balta wing/mid with swing man or ruck potential.

Wonder who to play on Cripps today? Balta is faster and heavier. Would be interesting....

Wasn't so good in the ruck today but is a freakish sometimes. He needs to get more of the ball but will be a star
I thought Soldo was good in the ruck

He's a kid, not bothered by it. Backing the club to get him sorted.

Third pre-season, he should at least be starting to have some idea about what's required... :shh

The young Tiger “athletically gifted to be anything”

By Andrew Slevison
SEN
6 Jan 2020

Terry Wallace believes Richmond’s Noah Balta could be anything.

The 20-year-old debuted during the 2019 season and went on to play 13 games for the eventual premiers as a key position player at both ends of the ground, while pinch-hitting in the ruck.

Balta possesses raw athleticism and a mixed bag of tricks, some that don’t always pay off, but if he can connect all the dots, then he could emerge as a quality player for the Tigers, according to Wallace.

“The really interesting one is Noah Balta,” Wallace said on SEN Drive.

“Where he goes and how he plays and whether he can get the whole thing together because his athletic traits are unbelievable. But he’s a little bit all or nothing at the moment, you just don’t know what you are going to get.

“You see this magnificent piece of play from him but then you’ll see him fumble a ball.

“If he can get it all together, he’s athletically gifted to be anything.”

Drive co-host Nathan Templeton feels that Balta may be best deployed in a key defensive position.

“Whether he ends up being a centre-half back. You often see that with those talented, freakishly athletic players, you send them to be a tall defender like a Majak (Daw) for example,” he said.

“That’s often where they end up being best used.”

Can anyone comment on his conditioning? Some bloke on BF reckons he was in poor shape coming back from the break. Not the end of the world but a little disappointing!
