I honestly don't know what would be more exciting...imagining what this guy will be like in a few years or having a supermodel as a girlfriend.

Do you mean imagining what Balta will be like in a few years v imagining having a supermodel girlfriend??

Pretty sure that was just a joke started by a Big Footy poster.... :shh

Balta has rapidly improved since debuting in Round 1, and has been rewarded by his club with a contract extension.

In Rounds 1 to 6, he averaged 7 disposals, which has dramatically improved in the past month, going at 14 touches per game.

With Toby Nankervis sidelined with injury, Balta has been required to do the majority of the ruck work, and has played his role.

Jeez, Balta looked out of place playing back against the Cats.

I think he is best when he can just run and jump at the footy without thinking about it too much.

The energy he brings when in the ruck gets the while midfield going.

Grimes and Vlastuin can play tall along with Garthwaite (for now) and if we bring back Broad, we are tall enough in defence.

What is wrong with

Vlastuin  Garthwaite/Astbury  Broad
Stack  Grimes  Edward/McIntosh

(Houli to a wing)

Balta and Chol in the ruck resting forward
Caddy predominantly forward- we need more goals
Butler dropped
Rioli back to the twos until he finds his manic pressure again, and if he is sore give him the next two weeks off contested work.

But most importantly our forwards need to separate and try to open up space for more leading up at the footy.

Agree with all this, what is the harm in giving Chol a couple of games??

I seem to recall a certain young bloke from WA who looked even worse playing down back at the same age... :shh

I agree but for now with all our injuries and no Rance to mentor him in games, he is best suited in the ruck IMO.
He is another midfielder when he is in the ruck.

Hardwick wants him in the backline but the question is 'is he a backman"?

From Fridays game he is a long way off being a backman.

I always thought with his speed and ability to absolutely pump the ball long he could absolutely tear it up on the wing

Balta looks fantastic anywhere near the thick of it.

Looks a bit awkward in the F50 but I haven't ruled him out developing here.

Looks out of sorts in the D50.

Ruck, wing, or to be completely honest I'd even consider playing him as a midfielder. He's strong and fast enough.

Maybe Chol to ruck with Dusty, Balta and Prestia around the bounce?

Big problem for this guy is the coaches playing him like a swingman when he hasn't figured out any role yet. I think it might stifle his development. Most good swing talls have usually established themselves in one spot first...

balta is a 19yo who has hardly played in defence at the top level. of course he has to learn the ropes he really is the only player we have who looks remotely capable of replacing Rance.

This week the crows will play Walker 194/100 kg and Jenkins 199/100kg and people want undersized blokes like Grimes and Broad to take em on.
Garthwaite isnt exactly a monster either at least Balta has the size to go with  one of them.I dont think we have a choice but play Balta down back this week.
We play undersized every week with so many smalls who give little in a lot of cases and in most cases are asked to play on bigger medium types
We are out sized and lose big time in height not to talls but mediums. But to then insist we play  undersized talls on the oppo talls only exacerbates the entire problem.

Shame there isn't a mid-season recruiting opportunity to cover our gaps.

Oh wait.

Should have put Rance on LTI and instead of getting Pickett gone after some KP's or bigger inside mids...
