While the Tigers cruised to a 70-point win, Hardwick said the premiers were not going as well as they'd like two weeks out from round one.

His review contrasted with that of North Melbourne coach Brad Scott, who said the Tigers looked "even sharper than last year" despite a later start to pre-season.

Coach Damien Hardwick said his team’s pre-season had been “OK” despite the big win.

“There’s obviously areas we’d like to improve. Our ball use inside 50, I know we kicked a fair few goals tonight, but I thought it was a bit scratchy at various stages,” Hardwick said.

“I think the scoreboard will indicate we’re going OK. We’re not quite going as well as we’d like.”

Richmond coach Damien Hardwick said he was satisfied enough with the win despite some last quarter lairising.

"North were pretty fierce around the contest too, which we were really happy with from a physical preparation point of view," Hardwick said.
