GRAND final flops Adelaide ($5) will start the 2018 as premiership favourites but the best-backed side among the leading flag contenders have been Richmond.
The Tigers have been backed into $7.50 to claim back-to-back flags.
“The Tigers showed no sign of a premiership hangover in the pre-season competition,” Ladbrokes AFL Trader Sam Somerville said.
“They won their matches by a combined 157 points and have to be a real chance of going back-to-back this year.”
Another side that has well supported is Geelong, with one Ladbrokes customer happy to see superstar Gary Ablett back at the Cats and putting $1000 on them to lift the premiership cup at $9.
The Cats have now come in to $8.50 to salute on the last Saturday in September.
In terms of a football fairytale, there is plenty of value to be found in teams coming from outside of last year’s top eight — just like Richmond in 2017.
“Fremantle attracted a $160 bet at $67 after its thumping win over West Coast in the JLT Challenge,” Somerville said.
“We also took bets of $100 on Collingwood ($34), $100 on Hawthorn ($23), and $565 on the Western Bulldogs at $34 to bounce back from a horror 2017.
“They’re now at $23.”
