Blight: I've uncovered the secret to Richmond’s successBy Sportsday SA
16 March 2018Malcolm Blight believes he’s figured out the secret to Richmond’s 2017 success.
The former Brownlow Medallist pointed to Richmond’s vast spread of goal kickers as one of the reasons they jumped from 13th on the ladder in 2016 to premiers.
“They can (do it again) because I’ve found their secret and it’s taken a while to unravel it,” Blight told Sportsday SA.
“Listen to this, Butler 30 goals, Castagna 28, Rioli 38, Josh Caddy 21 – three of them are kids.
“Martin and Cotchin got 54 goals between them, that’s class, we know that, Riewoldt kicked 54 which is handy and I think he’s underrated.”
Blight’s only concern is whether they Tigers did enough in the offseason to stay ahead of the pack.
“They’ve recruited no one this year, that’s why I’m starting to worry a bit,” Blight said.
Despite that, Blight believes the Tigers’ list-build will see them challenging again this year.
“They’re top four no doubt,” he said.
“They’ve got the forwards, they’ve got the midfielders, they’ve got the defenders and they’ve got these kids with pace who can kick goals.”
