A stir fry spin off from my pasta concoction.
My homemade stir fry:
Beef stir fry strips (extra lean) $12.00 ........ 500g packet at Woolies/Coles.
Gravy mix into a jug of water $0.50 ....... a packet costs $4 but it lasts for weeks.
2.2 litres of boiled kettle water $1.00 ........ roughly.
Onion & garlic powder $0.60 ......... jars cost $4 but also last for weeks. Again you can use fresh instead.
Italian herb mix $0.30 ........... not really Asian but stuff it! It's for extra flavour.
Salt $0.10 ......... a tablespoon.
Tomato paste (no added salt) $1.00 .......... One satchel.
Carrot, red capsicum $6.00 .......... fresh veggies. Baton cut so they are roughly 3-4 inches long.
& round beans.
4 eggs beaten in a bowl $4.00 .......... I buy a 6-pack of organic free range eggs which are around $6.
Long life noodles (2 portions) $1.00 .......... 4 square portions come in a pack (Changs). I guess you could use whatever noodles you like.
400g of long grain white rice $1.20 ............ a 1kg packet costs around $3.
---------
Total $27.70
The method is similar to my pasta recipe.
Stir and brown the beef stir fry strips in a big pot and then add the gravy liquid and the boiled water.
Chuck in the salt, onion, garlic, herbs (all to taste) plus tomato paste & veggies.
Once it starts boiling allow it to cook for 20 minutes.
Then pour in the eggs and add the rice and then stir for a couple of minutes.
Add in the noodles.
Cook for at least another 6 minutes (noodles should separate), and then continue stirring until the right texture.
Again serves 9 decent sized plate meals.
Wrap/cover in al-foil and store away in the fridge and reheat each night.
Cost per meal: ~$3.10
