Miles is slow (slower than Conca) for AFL, sloppy hands for an inside mid and also messy by foot. Conca is better defensively IMO, and a better tackler.

Granted I'd like to see Miles come in for a run.

Conca is not defensively better than Miles. Conca's kicking efficiency is very poor. Conca's defensive efforts were exposed against the Saints. Play Miles. He is a proven clearance winner and is also good at winning contested football. Miles is an okay kick for goal as well. Miles would relieve the pressure on other players like Dustin and Cotchin who constantly have to clean up Conca's mistakes.

You must watch different games to me!
Conca is faster, has better evasive ability but is a worse decision maker, panics more and fluffs kicks more....
OER. Calling it as it is since 2004.

Its pretty clear we all watch different games.

Also, nothing you've said contradicts my thoughts. Agree regarding Conca's decision making. Disagree regarding his disposal. I can't understand why people romanticise Miles use. He's very poor by hand and worse than average by foot. The main reason why he doesn't get regular ones.

Conca has a much higher ceiling, and probably as the club has invested more in him gets more of a run.

:clapping

....or when a player has to beat more than one opponents because he’s (Conca) kicked it your direction even though your grossly outnumbered, like when Macintosh had to beat three on the wing in the first quarter.  :rollin

Great effort by Macca he actually did win the contest in the end.  :clapping  :clapping :clapping

The main reason he doesn't get a game is because of his run and spread. He told this to us at a coterie function. He's been working on that aspect of his game.

I really like Miles, but he doesn't have a lot of versatility.

He reminds me of Mark McGough. When the conditions suit him, he is a star, and 45 years ago when games were played in much wetter conditions on average than they are today, he would have been a great player. But unfortunately, as someone else on here has posted previously, he is a victim of climate change. He can't adapt his game sufficiently to the modern game.

I really hope I am wrong, but unless Miles can add some tricks to his repertoire he is not going to have much of a future.

anthony miles is a quality player. do people have short memories of how his inclusion in 2014 catapulted us to win 9 in a row? can extract the pill and feed it to outside runners. something we could have used when we got pants by the eagles.

Can snag the odd goal and also averaged 20+ possessions when given a far run at it, something conca has never done.

People questioning miles versatility....what is conca so versatile in that gets him a game ahead of miles? Sure concas played as a small defender previously but that’s hardly his role atm and nor should it be with Rance, astbury, grimes, broad, vlastuin, Houli and short filling those roles. Fwd? Both players hit the scoreboard equally rarely. So we’re left with midfield where miles is by far the better clearance and contested ball winner - something we could definitely use atm especially with Prestia out. Conca is leading us in tackles so it’s pretty obvious that’s the reason he keeps getting picked.

Miles could play forward occasionally, good set shot and would at least win frees if not contests....Conca on the other hand is even worse in defence than he is in the guts but hey, if being woeful & a liability in more than one position counts for "versatility" then yes, Conca has Miles well & truly covered.... :shh

EDIT: Should point out that I'm not really a fan of Miles these days either.....was huge in 2014-15....but both the game and our gameplan have for the most part passed him by.....

...the real issue in all this is how much CEllis' lack of progression has stuffed things up in relation to our midfield depth.... :shh :shh

I assume you are referring to my quote?

I never mentioned Conca in my quote, and wasn't making any suggestion about why Conca gets a game ahead of him. I was focussing on Miles and wondering why he doesn't get a game fullstop, not even considering Conca.

To me the comparison between them is not accurate because they are different types of players who bring different strengths to the team. I don't really see them fighting over the same spot. I see Miles as being the understudy to Cotchin, although his game is more limited than Cotch's. I am not sure I understand who Conca has replaced.

Some players are just stiff because the coach doesn’t like them for some reason.

Terry Keays v Allan (imtoosenile) Jeans.
Jamie Tape v Robert (ididntwanttocoachanymorebuttooktherichmondjob) Walls.  :banghead
Jason Torney v Jeff (mrgimmick) Gieschen.
Shane Tuck v Danny (crybaby) Frawley.
Mark Chaffey v Terry (itwasntmyfault) Wallace.

.....just to name a few.  :rollin

Hardwick and Tuck didn't exactly have a lot of chemistry either

Tuck would do well with the current game plan. Skilled kicking is not as in demand. Running and pressure is.
