13 June 2018Former Melbourne captain Garry Lyon has labelled umpire 'Razor' Ray Chamberlain's chat to Richmond’s Shaun Grigg during the fourth quarter of last Friday's game as “condescending.”
“It’s just condescending,” Lyon said on SEN Breakfast.
“It’s the middle of a God damn football game.”
During a blood rule delay in the final two minutes of Port Adelaide’s 14-point victory over the Tigers, Chamberlain made fun of the aggravated footballer.

“You need to calm down,” Chamberlain said to Grigg.
“Just relax, OK?
“We don’t talk to one another like that, alright? It’s OK.”
Lyon wasn’t impressed by Chamberlain’s treatment of Grigg, believing he spoke down to the premiership player.
“I love dialogue between player and umpire,” Lyon said.
“(But) don’t talk like you’re 13-years-old.”
While Essendon champion Tim Watson questioned whether this was all in good spirit, Lyon said there is a double standard between players and umpires.
“I can talk to you like an eight-year-old but you don’t come back at me or I’ll give you 50 (metre penalty),” he said, as an example of Chamberlain’s position.
