Dimma's presser today:

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The game carries many storylines but the prospective battle between perhaps the game's best key forward, Lance Franklin, and best key defender, Alex Rance, also whets the appetite.

Hardwick, who jokingly dubbed the match-up 'Rance Franklin', said the pair would spend time against each other.

"It will [happen] at stages, there's no doubt. Alex plays full-back, Franklin plays a traditional full-forward role, so we're going to see that at stages.

"But once again, Alex will play on whoever's down there. Luke Parker will be down there at various other stages as well.

"They're two great players, so it's worth the price of admission to come and see those guys."

The blockbuster meeting will be Richmond's first game at Etihad Stadium this season, but Hardwick downplayed any concerns about not having it fixtured at the MCG.

"It is what it is. We can't change it, we accept it. We're happy to play them anywhere, any time, as most clubs would be, and Sydney would be the same," he said.

More from Dimma ...

“ … It’s going to be a terrific encounter, we encourage as many of our members to get there as we can we certainly love and value their support and they certainly help us get over the line," Hardwick said.

‘We expect a real pro-Tiger crowd to get there and support us.”

Only five of 12 teams have won coming off the bye so far this year but Hardwick was confident his side would be well-prepared to avoid defeat against Sydney.

“We’ve encountered this a fair bit with longer breaks anyway and it’s only a 10-day break anyway, for us,” he said.

“We’ve got a really good program in place to put into effect to make sure we play some good footy first up.”

Hardwick saw the mid-season break as a positive for the club and a chance to reset for the run home to the finals.

“It’s probably a freshener for the players first and foremost but the coaches as well so you can reset yourself for the back end of the year, so it certainly came at a really good time for us, we played 13 games in a row,” he said.

“The season itself is very tough, but we are looking forward to the back end of the season and the jostling for positions will start really from here on in.”

Meanwhile, in response to Fairfax Media’s report that Richmond’s leadership group had ticked off on the club’s ambition to recruit Gold Coast star Tom Lynch at the end of the year, Hardwick said: “Which 17 clubs wouldn’t tick off the recruitment of Tom Lynch?”

Hardwick was speaking at the packing of the Alannah & Madeline Foundation’s 85,000th Buddy Bag.

Buddy Bags are distributed to children placed in emergency foster care or domestic violence refuges, who often don’t have time to take their own belongings with them.

Sure are, not sure what the stats say when a team who played the previous week plays a side coming off the bye. Thats usually when the week off seems to have an effect.

Howling mistakes by the journo - obvious things that anyone following the game would know.
It's that simple Spud
"I discussed (it) with my three daughters, my wife and my 82-year-old mum, because it has really affected me … If those comments … were made about one of my daughters, it would make the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. I would not have liked it at all.”
