Adam Kingsley is the new GWS coach [merged]
« on: August 27, 2018, 02:17:14 PM »
Adam Kingsley will join Richmond’s coaching ranks next season, following eight seasons with St Kilda.

Kingsley will be an assistant coach at the Tigers from the 2019 season, following the Club’s recent announcement that Ben Rutten will depart at season’s end.

A highly credentialed coach, Kingsley is a graduate of the inaugural Level Four Coaches Program, was named the AFL Coaches Association’s Assistant Coach of the Year in 2015, and is very highly regarded by his peers.

Kingsley will be reunited with Richmond senior coach, Damien Hardwick, the pair are former Port Adelaide teammates and both 2004 premiership players.

Kingsley played 170 games for Port Adelaide, from the Club’s inaugural season in 1997, retiring at the end of 2006, and won the Club’s best and fairest in 1998.

Following his retirement, Kingsley remained at Port Adelaide as an assistant coach until the end of 2010 when he crossed over to the Saints. He coached the forward line, midfield and transition in his eight seasons at the Club.

“We’re really impressed with Adam and feel that he’ll be a great addition to Richmond’s coaching department,” Richmond General Manager – Football, Neil Balme said.

“With 12 years’ coaching experience, Adam sees the game really well, is a strong communicator, and we feel that he’ll connect really well with our coaches and players, and complement our coaching program.

“We look forward to welcoming Adam, his wife Nadine and children Cayla, Ethan and Raf to Richmond at the start of our pre-season.”

Another Power premiership star, Adam Kingsley, has shifted from St Kilda to Richmond to run stoppages in a coaching panel shuffle.

Kingsley's level of professionalism has been praised among coaches and players at Punt Road this pre-season.

He assumes the role from Andrew McQualter who will own the forward line, with Caracella maintaining the offensive movements as Leppitsch changes to the backline following the departure of Ben Rutten.

Per @tomrehn9

Adam Kingsley is in the box seat for the senior coach role at @Adelaide_FC following a very strong interview for the position.

New name emerges in race for Adelaide coaching job

By SEN
3 Oct 2019

Richmond assistant coach Adam Kingsley has emerged as a leading candidate for the vacant Adelaide coaching position.

According to AFL Nation’s Tom Rehn, Kingsley interviewed “really well” and is “right in the final frame” for the Crows’ top job.

“In terms of coaches, there's one name I think to keep an eye on. Adam Kingsley I’m hearing is right in it at the moment with the Crows,” Rehn told Telstra AFL Trade Radio.

“Assistant coach at Port, eight years at the Saints, is with Richmond this year for their premiership as an assistant – I’m hearing he has interviewed really well and is right in the final frame.”

Rehn understands Adelaide’s external review will conclude next Tuesday with an announcement on their new senior coach a “day or two” later.

The results of the review are expected to be “pretty explosive” with several senior players having requested to be traded from West Lakes.

“I think on Tuesday we’ll get some pretty explosive stuff that will come out of there,” Rehn said.

“My understanding is they’re going to make some pretty big calls … I think it’s probably the biggest season they’ve had in their 30 years.

“I think it’s almost the most important time in their history right now. They’ve just got to get this right.”

It’s what happens when you build a dynasty.

Essington cottoned on early and have brought in half our football department.

This will continue to happen for some time while we’re up.

Assistant Kingsley stays loyal to the Tigers

Richmond assistant coach Adam Kingsley has chosen to stick with Tigers rather than pursue the vacant Adelaide Crows coaching position.

Kingsley's decision to withdraw from the race for the Crows' coaching job leaves GWS assistant Matthew Nicks and Hawthorn assistants Scott Burns and Adem Yze among the remaining candidates to replace Don Pyke.

Kingsley, who coached Richmond's midfield in their premiership this year - his first at Tigerland - had been viewed as one of the leading candidates for the coaching position before his withdrawal.

Kingsley, who spoke to the Crows but never had an in-depth presentation, told Adelaide he wanted to develop further at Richmond and, in effect, the former St Kilda assistant and current lieutenant to Damien Hardwick has backed himself to win a senior job in future.

Yze recently signed a contract extension with the Hawks but is free to leave should be land the senior job at Adelaide. Assistant coaches almost invariably are not held to their contracts, or have get-out clauses, in the event of winning a senior position.

Kingsley was a leading candidate for the Crows position when Pyke won the job at the end of 2015 following the death of Phil Walsh during the season. He presented strongly then and was thus invited to apply again following Pyke's exit.

Hawthorn obviously would need to revamp their coaching panel if either Yze or Burns is appointed at the Crows. Both Burns and Nicks have South Australian backgrounds, which is arguably an asset in coaching Adelaide.

Tom Browne throwing this out there.

Adam Kingsley is a repeat name that comes up in my discussions regarding North Melbourne. He is highly regarded by good judges at St Kilda and Richmond.

That would be 3 assistants gone if true.
