Tigers in talks over CEO

With Richmond's internal troubles continuing to destabilise Clinton Casey's presidency, the Tigers board yesterday talked with AFL chiefs Ron Evans and Andrew Demetriou in a bid to resolve the leadership issues at the club.

Casey and his directors met Demetriou and Evans at an independent location to sound out the league bosses regarding the club's new chief executive, with the Tigers set to announce Ian Campbell's replacement by tomorrow.

While the final decision on the chief executive has been made, Richmond directors refused to disclose his identity to The Age last night.

One director, Rob Turner, refused to comment on a report that Casey had pressured him to resign at the club's most recent board meeting. Turner had been mooted as another board member joining the February-March exodus but has insisted upon remaining.

And both Richmond and Collingwood remained quietly confident that both clubs would convince the TAC to stick with both clubs as a major sponsor.

The Transport Accident Commission board met yesterday with the issue of the Magpies' Cameron Cloke and an adequate punishment firmly upon its agenda. But both the Tigers and the Magpies believe they will have to wait to learn of their long-term sponsorship fate with the Victorian Government body.

However, the Magpies will learn today of a fine of at least $5000 for the club by the TAC.

Let's not let facts get in the way of over-dramatic headlines and the selling more papers  ::).
