Club Corner?
« on: March 27, 2006, 02:37:28 PM »
Not that it's the greatest show on Earth with Billy and Rod from dromana calling up each week but has anyone heard if and when Club Corner will be back on Sport 927 Monday nights this year?

Heard the promo last week, which said it is on again. I wasn’t listening all that intently, so not sure if it starts tonight or next Monday night.  Does that help MT? :P

Thanks for that TS. That's 100% more than I had heard :).

I contacted Sport 927 and it is starting back on air tonight (11pm - midnight).

Your boy spoke very well Moi  :thumbsup.

* Playing down back. Accountable defensively as well as working attack/rebounding into the game.
* Been working on endurance, speed an skills.
* Standouts/step up this preseason - Lids, Tambo, Patto, Foley.

Sugar interview

* Intensive preseason. 95% of our blokes did a full preseason. Looking forward to the start of the year.
* Need to become consistent as a team throughout the year.
* Confident now Browny will be back. Will be naturally sore some weeks and might have a downer now and then but Browny will be right.
* First 12 months learning under Wallace. Followed the game plan some weeks but fell back into old habits sometimes. This year the guys are thinking about their footy.
* No finals = failed.

Wallace on club corner - Part 1

* Looking forward the start of the year.

* We chose to train at Carey to avoid any disruption. Refreshing for the boys but glad to be back at Punt Road.

* Difficult to know where we stand. We know we have improved and matured but not how other sides have.

* Preseason results don't really matter. Last year our best preseason result was the last one yet we got smashed in round 1. Sme of our boys might have got wrapped up in the emotion of the day at Mildura.

* Told the squad we haven't realisitically finalised selection for the doggies game..

* Won't know how Browny will go for sure until a few weeks into the real stuff. He's got through the preseason games but has pulled sore. He may or may not miss games along the way. Unrealistic to think he'll be back to first 10 rounds form in the immediate future.

* Richo hasn't set the world on fire yet. Best game against the Swans. Expect the competitive juices to kick in in the real stuff.

* We go to Richo a bit too much. Top 2 going to the FF. Ideally have 5 blokes at least kicking 25+ goals.

* Backline - Improving. 114 in 2004 to around 100 in 2005. A similar improvement this year gets you down to 86 which is top side form. Offensively we were alot better and defensively we improved.

* We were able to get the ball inside 50 enough to kick a winning score but didn't convert it onto the scoreboard. That's what we've been working on.

* TAFE - a way to cover subsets of the game. Hard to tell if everyone is taking things on board in a large group of 40. More beneficial to have hands on training/education with 6 blokes.

* Cambo (in NY btw) - will miss his experience etc but will have other blokes to fil the void and step up.

* 12th in bench changes. We didn't as a side have ready made players to rotate last year. Hurt us as the workload got too much for Tuck and Cogs. Struggled to find a second tier midfield. This year we're finding guys to step up into that so there'll be more bench rotations.

* Humm - lack of opportunity and injuries so as he just squeezed into the rookie qualification we took him.

* Paddy Bowden - will get his opportunity but like all players needs to take it. Known him since he was 17 and knows he needs to build up his confidence to ulitize his talent.

Wallace interview - part 2

* JON - very talent and quick. Hope supporters get down to Coburg in the early days to see them come through and develop.

* Casserly - groin injuries so we've taken him slowly. Back running now.

* White - Going to rookie him but after seeing down at the club we didn't want ot lose him so we took in the PSD.

* We've been accused on having a lot of runners. We've love an extra tall and backman. Expect Hughes to have a successful career even though he has still alot to learn. Played him Dustin Fletcher last week.

* Simmonds  - came across as a power forward who wanted to play more in the ruck. Lacked mobility to play the ruck role so has trimmed down.

* Lids - we sometimes get carried away. Good for a first year but he really only impacted in 2-3 games. Mostly cameo roles. Only expectation is that he improves whether quickly or slowly. No second year blues.

* Tambo - some players take a bit longer given they need to come down and settle in Melbourne. Luke Ball was similar.

* Cogs - expect more as his been in the system for a while. Thought he did really well after 12-18 months off through injury. Would have been in our best early on in the season.

* Raines and Roach - always difficult living in shadow but handling it well. Rainsy wasn't a F/S but has improved the way it should be. 1 then 6 games and now ready to cement a spot this year. Roach has been less so but has trained hard and on of the best on the track. Up to whether he has the ability.

* Expect more from Schulz this year as he's been in the system while now. He's had cameo roles up forward but he's trained to play down back and that's where we'll play him.

* Rodan - hasn't hit the form he had before doing his knee last preseason. Put it down to lack of continuity. Frustrating for him but he's beenn first in last out and with a smile on his face.

* Last year early on won the games we could win and some of them were close. Later on played better sides and interstate although we were pretty good outside Victoria. In front against Port and kicked ourselves out of it against Freo. Only lost one game that people expected us to win. Only can expect to go out and try win each week.

* 2 interstates then only a six game break to the Carlton game. That short break after two interstate trips is the tough ask. This year is the flip side of last year. Tough early which will give us an idea of where we are at then a good run home.

* Magnificent to get 5000 out to Jells Park. A couple of main reasons he took the job was to finish some unfinished business at Richmond and because of the latent large supporter base out there.

* Fans don't want to hear about 5 year plans and what we're going to like in 2009. We wanted to be competitive with senior players around yet bring young exciting youngsters through.

Interview with Rainsey:

He thinks he’s a fair chance to be picked this week, with a solid pre-season.

Half back is a starting point for him, to take forward and then work his way defensively and then work his way into the game with his attacking run off half back or push up into the midfield.  He’s rapt that he’s had more ground time which has helped him step up his performance levels.

Wingman/half back role – looking forward to playing on a good solid attacking player, and then working himself into attacking game, but keeping in mind his defensive role.

Fitness – second full preseason (not including his first because that was only half a preseason) – has put on a bit of weight and size – been working on a variety of stuff to help his game – endurance, speed etc.

Who’s in the mix for a game – lots of kids pushing up for selection.  He thinks Deledio has had a good preseason, Tambling, Patto, Foley are going okay.

Jon is starting to play a few practice matches after an interrupted preseason.  Looks to be a player of the future – smooth mover, good skills and runs and carries footy.

Cleve and Casserley look like likely prospects.  Thinks Cleve is a class act – pretty accurate goal kicker.  Thinks he’s gonna be a great player for the RFC.

He’s looking forward to the season after a long preseason since October and playing some real footy against the Bulldogs.

Didn’t mention my influence lol - strange  :rollin

He's a good kid and hope he goes really well this year  :thumbsup

Hughes on club corner
« Reply #12 on: April 03, 2006, 11:51:14 PM »
Cleve Hughes was interviewed on club corner:

* Had a late growth spurt. Onballer/wingman in junior days before growing taller. Played FF then moved to CHF at Norwood reserves and U19  over last 3 years.

* Playing closer to goal here.

* 2006 - Hopes to get a game or two this year. Need to show form for Coburg.

* Marking a strength of his as well as quick off the mark over the first 10 metres. Wants to work on contested marking.

* At T@FE has done contested marking with Alessio, goalkicking with Richo and mark on a lead with BT.

* Does one training a week at Coburg (day before); rest of training at Punt Road.

* Named after a small country town he grew up in SA.
