Interestingly enough, they left out Conca.... :shh

Your club's best 22 for 2019

RICHMOND

B: Dylan Grimes, David Astbury, Nathan Broad
HB: Jayden Short, Alex Rance, Nick Vlastuin
C: Kamdyn McIntosh, Dustin Martin, Dion Prestia
HF: Shane Edwards, Jack Riewoldt, Josh Caddy
F: Daniel Rioli, Tom Lynch, Dan Butler
FOLL: Toby Nankervis, Trent Cotchin, Kane Lambert
I/C: Jack Higgins, Jack Graham, Bachar Houli, Shaun Grigg

There aren't too many changes to the preliminary final team with just Reece Conca leaving the club all together from that starting 22. Tom Lynch is a walk-up start to the forward line, which sees Josh Caddy pushed to an attacking flank. A fit Dan Butler squeezes in ahead of Jason Castagna, while Nathan Broad was the preferred option over Brandon Ellis in the finals and probably stays in, unless they want more run off half-back. Jacob Townsend remains out of the team and it remains to be seen if he'll get another contract at this stage, while Connor Menadue will likely stay on the fringe for the season's start.

Herald-Sun's attempt:

RICHMOND

B Dylan Grimes Alex Rance Nathan Broad

HB Nick Vlastuin David Astbury Bachar Houli

C Kane Lambert Dion Prestia Kamdyn McIntosh

HF Shane Edwards Tom Lynch Daniel Rioli

F Dan Butler Jack Riewoldt Josh Caddy

Foll Toby Nankervis Dustin Martin Trent Cotchin

I/C Shaun Grigg Jack Higgins Jayden Short Jason Castagna

Next in line: Brandon Ellis, Jack Graham, Jacob Townsend, Oleg Markov, Connor Menadue, Ryan Garthwaite

AL PATON SAYS
: Only an injury setback can stop Tom Lynch from lining up at centre half-forward in Round 1. The Tigers’ mini exodus has seemingly had little impact on the best 22 with premiership stars Brandon Ellis, Jack Graham and Jacob Townsend being squeezed out of our predicted line-up. Jayden Short cemented his place in the senior team this year. Will Dimma stick with the mosquito fleet underneath Lynch and Jack Riewoldt?

Our midfield has insufficient depth.

We are in big trouble peoples.

We really need to lay down the gauntlet to Oleg, Menadue, Callum Moore, Naish, Balta, Garrhwaite and the Sudanese Liam McBean to show up during the pre season and put some pressure on our bottom 6 because after the Prelim, there’s spots available in our 22
“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.

Insufficient when we have injuries.

Dusty, Cotch, Prestia with chop outs from Caddy, Shedders and Lambert is still about the best in the comp

Very likely that Prestia misses 6 - 8 games again next year, and I’m not sure Cotch can sustain what he has been doing the last 2 years.

We need Graham, Rioli and Higgins to give us the depth Collingwood got from their no names last year

Unless we completely stuff it up, pick 17 in this draft will probably be a ready to go mid and a good player...and someone like Mitch Grigg would be an automatic improvement on Cellis,  Miles and Conca too for that matter too...wouldn't mind grabbing Weller as a DFA ....off all our smalls I'd actually like to see Castanga developed as a run with hard tackling mid who can hurt the other way with his pace, his disposal by hand isn't that bad these days either ...it would also be a huge bonus if Townsend could improve his midfield game to at least servicable at AFL level and he probably needs to if he wants to continue beyond next year...... :shh

Playing 3 small forwards that cannot really play anywhere else at this stage really limits our midfield rotations.
I cannot ever see Butler playing midfield at AFL level, same really goes with George, he is a star as we all know, but imo he really doesn’t have the footy brain and composure to be a mid, and unfortunately I think Rioli will be like his uncle and not be a mid either.

Can we continue to play 3 smalls that don’t really help our mids??
